Geez! That would be the score of the decade if it's for real.

Sending good luck vibes your way.

Never say never. Here's hopin' you are the ONE!

I've had some deals I never thought would pan out but did. Ya gotta believe!

Best,

Paul :thmbsp:

If it is near OSU I wonder why it is listed in Dayton and not Columbus? weird.
Anyway good luck bro!! let me know if you need me to haul it ;)

The seller is already wise to a degree.

I just spoke to the guy, sounds like a dumb ass to me, no offense dumb ass of you read this.

Anyways, I guess my email was 2nd in line. Someone offered him 600.00 for it so he asked me would I give him more. I said I couldn't afford too.

So, in other words. I didn't ruin it for the next guy. But he's clued in. Says his surround system came from best crap so.........

The speakers sound trashed from what he describes. Beer and what not.

But the pioneer is worth a truck load alone.

Anyone want to loan me a grand :D

:scratch2:

you got a point

Somebody buy this ****. offer him 1200.00 if you have to.

*slaps table* I'm out!

In any case, hope you get it together, Donkey. Something good needs to happen, I'd say. I'd have had some dry words for the SOB along the lines of, "gee, if you're auctioning it, why didn't you put it on ebay?"

This may be how these types of things go on CL, but they drive me bonkers coming from an old-school "swap meet/flea market/junk store" mindset. To me the first person to respond with the cash gets first right of refusal and so on down the list. Why? Because the ad didn't say "Best Offer" (which, in and of itself, is another form of half-ass auction that honorless dogs offer). The ad said $100. Period.

I know there's going to be a lot of people chime in and say that it's the guy's stuff, he can sell it for whatever he wants. A lot of other people will feel for the guy and say that it wouldn't have been fair for someone to walk away with a steal. Ignorance is no excuse for false advertising and bad business. To insist such perpetuates the American habit of shifting blame and creating a culture of victimization. Whatever happened to a man's word being his bond?

And no, I wasn't the first to respond, nor evidently early enough to even garner a response.

VERY WELL SAID!

Not long ago on my local C/L someone put up:

"Old Pioneer SX 1050 Receiver $50 I'll even take less"

Includes a phone # so I call and tell the seller I'd come for it right away and that I would pay the $50 no problem, and I also alluded that it was an excellent deal. Seller agrees to sell it to me, I told him it was about a 50 mile ride so expect me in about an hour. I was the first respondent.

I get there, and sure enough, he had about 8-10 calls and someone had whispered in his ear. So, he asks how much I'll pay. I tell him the $50 he had agreed to in our previous conversation, and then I asked him if his word meant anything to him. I told him if he had planned an auction why did he list the receiver on C/L?

About 45 seconds of silence followed before he took the $50 I offered and off I went.

Touch and go. Bottom line:

Your word is your word. Keep it. :nono:

Best,

Paul :thmbsp:

I'm with ya Paul. I can't stand these pricks that do that. Same goes for that dickweed in Ohio, SCREW HIM!

I gotta go take my meds now :D

here is his email address: jaketurnerrn452@yahoo.com

Someone email him and buy it. He said he would take 700.00

I don't have the money, will in a while but not now.

Someone should go buy this stuff. Hell, wrecked it's still worth 3 times that.

The tuner alone is worth 350.00 easy.

If I was anywhere near Columbus... Another thing, I'd be careful investing six hours in a car ride only to be met with a bait-and-switch.

It seems to me, you ask your price and someone brings said price, you got your self a deal at that price. No backing out on the sellers part.

Seller named his price, 100 bucks.

If he's so much the fool as to not research the value of what he's selling before naming his price, then so be it.

He named a price and should be made to honor it, "fair market" is irrelevant as he determined their value to him at 100 bucks.

I'm with ya Paul. I can't stand these pricks that do that.
STRONGLY SECONDED!

I don't see the moral high ground for being indignant over somebody crawfishing when you are perfectly content to pay him a ridiculously small fraction of what it is worth.

I don't see the moral high ground for being indignant over somebody crawfishing when you are perfectly content to pay him a ridiculously small fraction of what it is worth.

Let me clarify my argument:

The difference is that if I were to "pay him a rediculously small fraction of what it is worth," I'd be following a very basic tenet of capitalism; that is, if a person asks a price for a commodity that is less than what it is worth to me, I might offer to buy it. It really is that simple. If this bothers you, Zero, I worry that a hobby that skirts the collectibles field may be disheartening. Trading in collectibles, the basic MO is getting over on you fellow man, and everyone dreams of the big "score."

In fact, I'd go so far as to speculate that most of the highly coveted vintage gear we collectively own on Audiokarma either came from someone who made money on it or someone who didn't know what it was worth. This is how our gear comes to us. Please don't assume that everyone who jumped on that ad was a flipper, either. Some of us don't have deep pockets.

When you see something at the garage sale or thrift store for cheaps, do you generally tell them to raise their price, even if you can't pay them what it's worth? Unless you do (and have), your position of moral authority isn't so solid, yourself.

If someone says he'd take $100 in an ad (an ad that's still up, by the way) and has no intention of honoring that ad an hour later, he has committed an act of dishonesty. He'd be double damned in my eyes if he never actually intended to take $100 before the feeding frenzy, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he was just ignorant.

All I'm asking is that business is conducted with honor and integrity, like in the old country...

Let me say that I agree with you 100% on this, but the reality is that this is Craigslist, the Wild West of online commerce. I've had the same crappy stuff happen to me, and I expect it to happen again. But the good people are out there - it's just too bad this guy wasn't one of them.
