Comedy hifi-related injuries - anyone had any ?

Markoneswift

Quartz locked n ready to rock
Well I'm just wondering because I was on the receiving end of a hifi injury last night. No-one told me this hobby is dangerous.....

Mine occurred whilst I was crouching down, trying to remove gunk from a metal trim ring belonging to one of my JVC SK-1000's. I had the trim ring resting on my thigh, but what I didn't realise is my knee was protruding through the hole in the ring, so the opposite side of the ring was resting against my lower shin bone. I then tried to stand up......

Sounds pretty stupid I know, but it's one of those things you don't realise you're doing. As I tried to stand, the trim ring scraped heavily against my shin bone and drew a fair bit of blood. It only hurt for the first hour......

Yeah that sounds painful.

I haven't had any major injuries yet, but here are some minor ones: Strained my back doing a multitude of different things including moving things around and kneeling on the floor for interconnects (I have some lower back issues sometimes). I've hit my head on my metal loft a number of times, which my primary hi-fi system is under at the moment. I've gotten my finger(s) stuck under some of my components when moving them, which is not fun when some of them are heavy vintage receivers. I slipped up the stairs one time carrying my Sony Blu-Ray player because I was in a hurry and wearing socks (the stairs are hard wood); luckily neither me nor my player were damaged (I got some bruises though). I cut myself trying to open up a Technics cassette deck one time; had to wipe some blood off the silver face .

That's it for now.

OK, I'll go. I was sitting at my bench working on a receiver. I dropped my screw driver. Totally focused on the repair, I reached down to pick it up and resume the task at hand when BOOM. My reach was just a bit shorter than the distance from the bench top to the floor. I hit my head really hard but I started laughing so much that it didn't hurt too badly. I have many more but no one saw anything and I'm not telling!

I took a nick out of my palm at the base of my little finger with a chisel too, whilst removing gunk from the woofer basket of an AR90 driver. That little sucker bled quite a bit !

I ended up with a nasty sliver of glass from a Mcintosh 7009 faceplate in my foot. That damn thing hurt instantly just like a pressure treated wood sliver does. It was too small for me to see it to dig it out so I limped around for about a week from that one.

I electrocuted myself twice on the motor run capacitor of a Sony reel deck.
Soldering in boxer shorts is uncomfortable in the long run

Soldering with shorts on..........

Lol, I can imagine. My wife told me a funny story of how she was learning about basic electronics way back in high school. They had all been soldering stuff and then were told to take their seats - unfortunately, someone's very hot soldering iron had already taken my wife's seat when she sat down.....

Umm, about that not telling...

You just did.

I got me some serious horror stories but I am just not sure I want to tell.

I dropped a heavy timber veneered speaker cabinet on my foot about 6 months ago....I had thongs on or flip flops at the time. The sharp edge of box landed right on the bone top of foot....Crikey did it hurt...proper roll on the ground in pain moment..
I couldn't walk properly for a couple of weeks, its just started getting colder here now and I am feeling it again coming down the stairs first thing in the morning..possibly something broken.

Tenuously hifi related, but still painful-
Was hungry, so I made myself a sandwich and got some new hot sauce, so I slathered it on. It was one of those "INSANE" type hot sauces that became very popular in the early 2000's. I had just recently refoamed my AR7's and they were really sounding great that day, listening to Tomita's version of Pictures at an Exhibition for the first time. Well, the performance was amazing, so much so that I didn't even notice that the hot sauce had dripped all over my shorts, until I stood up.

The cold bathwater did NOTHING.

I'm actually almost too embarrassed to post this one, and there was no actual injury (except to the notion of my own competence.) I was refoaming some speakers late one afternoon and absent mindedly grabbed my beer and took a big swig. It was, however, the bottle of isopropyl alcohol that I had been using to clean up old glue. Fortunately my brain processed that the bottle was the wrong shape and my nose noticed the smell in time for my tongue to block off my throat. Also fortunate is that I was working on these speakers in the kitchen, so the sink was handy. I like IPA as well as the next guy (perhaps more), but this IPA is awful.

I am currently at six days post hernia repair surgery. About 6 weeks ago I was crouched down trying to lift my heavy Latino VTA ST-120 tube amp and ruptured my right groin. I found first-hand how dangerous audiophilia can be. Abdominal surgery is not pleasant.

Well my one buddy with pro sound equipment, back then, not now when it does not have the power it says, had a Marshall stack and the top and bottom cabinet were not the same depth. So in front of the top top that held the tweeters he put his wine glass. It melted.

Does that qualify ?

Ever try to carry a pair of D9's through a foot of snow? Was not pretty when I slipped but the speakers were not injured. Also, Doan's Pills makes a good buck off me when I try to move around 26 Phase Linear 700 and 700B amps in the garage. Down to 8 now and one extra tranny
