Comments on the jobs poll results !

C220MC275

Duke,Louis,Ella,Oscar...
Hi guys,

What do you think of the results of the jobs of Mc owners 's poll ?
Did you expect that ?
These are my conclusions :

I think we can draw several conclusions.
The poll should be significant with near 150 voters.

1) The first category, by far, which is not in the poll ( I forgot them also ) is :
engineers in Industry , Computers, Space, Aeronautics, Electricity ..../ technical workers / : I counted 29 of them : That's the biggest category.
Following are the 24 voters in "Education / University / Research".
So this is strongly opposite to the rumor of Mc being for MDs and lawers without ears ! Mc is more present among engineers than MDs and lawers.

2) Moreover, "Blue collar " are a big category, and they equal MDs. This is surprising and great news for McIntosh.
I don't think many luxury brands, selling products costing several thousands dollars, can be found among so many different people. Related to Jobs, McIntosh can qualify as a "popular brand". . I don't think we could say Rolex, Louis Vuitton, Mercedes and so on, are popular brands !

McIntosh is a Myth, like Harley Davidson for example, and the Myth crosses the frontiers.

This was a very instructive poll. Thanks to all of you ! Keep voting if you did not yet !

I have many "blue collar" friends who were clearing $100K gross when overtime was plentiful so the numbers do not suprise me one bit.
Especially for those fortunate enough to be single with no dependants:D

Depending on how one defines "blue collar", I have friends who have nothing more than a high school diploma who own small businesses such as tree trimming & lawn services, snow removal, residential roofing, etc... who do quite well financially.

In fact, whether it be wine, cheese, cigars, art, music, motorcycles, etc... some of the most educated "connoisseurs" I have met either have blue collar jobs or come from such a background. :thmbsp:

I don't know how you'd classify farmers, cattle ranchers, dairy, etc... but those cats have SERIOUS money!!! Have you ever priced a combine? :D

I forgot them also in the Poll. I would call them either Agro workers ( = blue collar ) or Agro owners which would fall in the "business owner" cat.
In France too, some of them make serious money.
But some others work 7 days a week, for about 1000 to 1500 euros per month : big variations there....

My comment on this since I was the one that first brought up the missing Blue Collar catagory is that the whole thing is bith silly and very biased.

You are also assuming that in order to own one of these "Luxury" items that it would have to be bought new. I see Mac stuff selling on CL every now and then for well under $1000.00 a unit and some under $500.00

You appear to have no concept of how much money is made by whom. My cousin and my wife's best friend both drive for UPS. and I dare say both make close to $70,000.00

I drive a dump truck for a living only work 8 months out of the year and clear $40.000.00 with my wife clearing another $30,000.00 And no kids at home nor any real bills buying Mac gear used would be no problem. Of course I have much diffferent tastes.

Oh and to answer a question a new combine will cost well over $300,000.00 I know grass seed farmers here who own 20 or more combines granted not all new. But throw in a few $200,000.00 tractors and you get the point.

You poll was very flawed and it's results are basically meaningless.

IMHO

Maybe, but most doctors and lawyers are too busy to spend time on an audio web site. I know I certainly did not have the time before I retired.

All the popular luxury brands rely upon the aspirational buyer. If lower paid secretaries didnt buy Louis Vuitton --- it would not exist. If less affluent people didnt buy Mercedes C - Class cars on 300/month leases there would be no Mercedes. I actually dont follow your conclusion given we dont have comparative data for LV, Mercedes etc... The brands guard these statistics and there are facts may look a bit strange such as Mercedes-Benz SUV owners are less affluent than Cadillac SUV owners, but Cadillac car buyers owners don't actually have half the income of Mercedes car owners.

Great job on the survey... Another interesting survey would focus on height. If you surveyed the height of McIntosh owners you would likely find that white males who own McIntosh are significantly taller than average. This statistic would not work for other races and women...

An interesting follow-up poll would be the value of one's audio system (i.e., total retail price of components) as a percentage of gross annual income.

I did a quick calculation myself and the rational side of me was a little shocked.

Lighten up all!!! I think he was just trying to see if the assumptions and perceptions of many that only "Old Stogeys" read Bankers and Lawyers buy McIntosh . I do not think it was supposed to be statistically valid. I think the poll proved that McIntosh cuts across all occupations.

There are pre conceived notions of who owns certain brands of products. When I was living in Europe and was going to order a Mercedes E Class a friend commented, those are for Bankers and Butchers. He said I should buy a BMW or Audi.

For 2008 I estimated 25% of my gross income was spent on audio related necessities :thmbsp:

If our economy needs stimulus I recommend they give money to audio junkies and we'll stimulate the hell out of the economy:D

Exactly !!! I've been understood here !!
I know some blue collars can make good money. In fact that's never the case in France. Blue collars don't earn more than 3 to 4000 euros a month, and then they have to pay taxes on that.
I was more interested in the kind, the field of occupation, rather than the income by itself.
In France, Blue Collars don't know anything about McIntosh. They think it's an apple ! they also don't know anything of Cabasse or JM lab which are french societies ! ( unless they work in their factory ) !
So to me, that's a big difference.
And I suppose also that not everyone buy Mc new, neither everyone buy Mc 1000 series.... !

Hi Lionking,

You have a point for lower paid secretaries and LV. This was a bad example.
Still, you have to keep in mind that you live in the richest country in the world.
In France, a "lower paid" secretary earns 1500 dollars a month. Then she has to pay about 200 dollars of income tax, so it remains 1300 dollars.
If she spends for a LV bag, the same amount, so that's one month of working. It's true that women are a bit crazy when it comes to bags, but we're talking psychiatry here....
No Hi-Fi product from my separates cost me more than one month of income.
(I earn about 20 000 euros net per month, and my wife earns about 10 000 euros net per month ).

Concerning the Class C example, at least concerning the medium french income, you live completely in an other planet.
The medium french income is 1700 euros per month. And I'm talking taxes not included (we pay taxes after that ). That means 50 % of the french people earn 1700 euros a month or less.
You should realize that for french people, a class C Mercedes is a luxury car !!! Mercedes is NOT A POPULAR BRAND !!
And I'm sure even in the US, Mercedes could not be qualified as a popular brand.

Euros are tasty, there is a greek place down the street that has them.

Newman, we must be in the same bus!

Jerome thanks I see your point there are vast regional differences. We don't pay VAT and Europe pays more for cars so we in USA can buy them cheaper... Plus you need to understand Americans are crazy and irresponsible. The average Mercedes car owner makes roughly 160K/year --- family income...In the big cities most Mercedes are delivered, this level of income is not enough to be able to afford the average home.

But my friend Jerome don't dispair --- it seems the last two French business school students I mentored are as irresponsible and materialistic as their American counterparts... They want to start hedge funds and make at least 10M/year...

I participated, but must say I thought the survey in poor taste and reflects nothing.

I think no more of someone who is a scientist and has a million bucks in Stereo equipment than I do my local Patisserie girl who serves me donuts.

There is no qualification to be able to go out and pick a brand and think that you are the coolest guy on the block....

You ever hear the song.. That don't impress me much, so you got a nice car...:)

Now if you won the Nobel Prize for some Vaccine, that would be impressive

I've got "chill" pills available in large quantities. Any takers?

ummmm....

All you really got was a few people from a very narrow sample answering your question.

All you found out about Mc owners is the demographic here on this forum...

I'm going to agree your results are lopsided because the people that others claim own the most Mc, aren't going to be the typical kind of people that hang out on this forum...

Interesting demographics for the forum, but I can say, that since it was such a narrow Mc audiance, that it is no where near the real picture...

That's the funny thing about polls and statistics.. your audiance can blow the hell out of the accuracy rate..
