Compact, budget system for the den?

My minimum size for a woofer is 6.5". Because smaller than that and you are not going to get any real bass and you will need a sub.The Fosi can accomodate a sub, but that will be more money spent. The Daytons come with a 6.5" woofer and a silk dome tweeter. Not going to be the highest of hifi, but I bet they would sound decent in a work out room.

They sound pretty decent in one of my offices with a Volt D+.

There is no replacement for dispacement applies to woofer size as well... It's physics...
Yep. Reality often gets in the way of desire.

Practically though, I'm be in a small, unoptimal listening space to begin with. Couple that with most music I'll listen to doesn't require strong bass, listening is done primarily while I'm panting for breath between workout sets -- and I can probably go down to a 4" speaker and not notice much, but I'll try to stick with 5.25".

Thanks for the additional speaker recommendations. The list grows...

Check the Bay. They have a good selection of used NHT bookshelves at pretty good prices. They'll be much better than most mini-system speakers from Goodwill.
