Compare Snell Type D to Thiel CS 2.3 speakers

Thanks for the information. The seller is down to $450 so I'm planning to pull the trigger as soon as I confirm the working condition. What would you compare the Snell type D to as being most similar in another speaker brand?
Great score! I really can't offer a comp, sorry.

They're very different speakers ..

Personally, I have always preferred the Snells to the Theil's ..
The Theil's are too dry and clinical to my ear ... the Snell's are warmer .. And your Superphon front end is going to expose both speakers ..
I would expect that pairing the Snell's with the Superphon would be a neutral, but more synergistic, and musical system..
( I've owned the excellent preamp but never the amp )

YMMV ..

+1 for similar comments. I used to own both back in the day. The Snells had a much longer stay than the Thiels. Having said that the Snells sound much better with tons of power on tap. Forget 100/chnl. 250 or more is better. But that was true with most of the Snell line.

I love Theil speakers. But keep in mind, they are extremely revealing of a bad recording and any upstream gear that might be of lower quality. Also, the coaxial tweeter/mid drivers in those speakers are pretty much unobtainable. And there is not suitable replacement driver that I know of. Rob at Coherent Source will rebuild them for around $500 a pair or better.
