hi, does anybody or has anybody completely recapped their MC30? I'm looking for the best replacements or a good replacement kit if they're available.

thanks,
mike

There is some info at the klipsch site proper forum but I do not know where exactly.

If you do a search you should find plenty of info. I just finished redoing my MC30s and basically got the info from searching on here. I don't know that there is a "best" for caps - there's your budget and what you typically like. I recapped with mostly Sonicap platinums and sprague atoms - you'll see that in the pics that I posted. It was a splurge for me but I figure that I'll keep these amps for a very long time. I've been happy with my decision. You don't need to spend that much to make them sound good and be safe...so it's up to you.

Here's mine. If I was doing this again, I would probably re-think the choice of caps if only for the sake of doing something differently. It works, however, and and sounds great.

The bumble bee cap on the left doesn't do anything so I left it in place.

I've used Auricaps, Solen and Illinois Capacitor. Frankly, they're pretty much the same, IMHO. Many of the folks I respect who restore these amps use Illinois Caps. They appear to be solid working caps and readily available.

Also, pay close attention to the resistor values. They will have drifted and they do need to be checked. After you've been pushing and pulling the boards, too, they can develop hairline cracks that will generate additional noise.

You'll like the results when you're done, though - a lot!

Cheers,

David

excellent start but....

Thanks a bunch folks.. but, I'm wondering what i'll get if I went to a bourns 10 turn for the gain pot. it's a wirewound so I'm certain that it will make a difference in sound along with the recap job.

anybody have opinions?

Have pulled out more than I have put in, larger size for more noise/humm pickup, though easy/fun to use, the 10 turn will yield no change in the overall sound.
