Since the 6.5 is rated @ 65wpc, I assume the 5.5 might be 55wpc? I'm totally new to Concepts, so obviously that's just a wild guess. :scratch2:That is correct - 55wpc. It was the 1st generation (around 1976) TOTL Concept receiver (2nd gen 16.5, 3rd gen 12.0D).I'm totally new to Concepts, so obviously that's just a wild guess. :scratch2:
I guess my pure dumb luck makes up for my lack of smarts, lol.
So far, I'm loving it, it's very realistic, but I don't really know how to describe the soundstage & such accurately.Does the 5.5 have the variable loudness like many of the other higher end Concepts? If so, you can use the combination of the volume and variable loudness buttons to achieve just about any volume level spot on. If not, I guess you have to live with it.The only thing I DON'T like, is the detented volume pot, it makes it hard to set the right level, but I can learn to live with it
All the lights work except one, whatever is similar to the stereo light, to the right of it. My speakers are EPI 100Ws, but they have the 8" AlNiCo woofers from a pair of ESS Tempests in them. I also have a stock pair of woofers in EPI M100s, and I've A/Bed them on my Sansui 7000, & very much prefer the ESSs. When I went to check if I had a variable loudness, "Those Shoes" by the Eagles was just starting, and it helped me find better words to describe the sound. When percussion is being played, you don't just hear cymbals, you know for sure when it's a crash, ride, or hi-hat being played, because it's accurately reproducing the sound, like it's supposed to. And you never get confused with the bass drum & bass guitar, lol, they're totally different instruments, and make totally different sounds. I might have to look at that volume pot closer, I remember removing the little "BB" from one, on a cheapie receiver some time back, when I was a little less experienced. I can't remember exactly what that "missing" bulb might be for: Most Concepts have no other light than the stereo light, but some of the older models (likely also incl. the 5.5) have a little cutout window with a plate behind it above the tuning scale. It is not supposed to be lit, and I have not figured what it is for - and that's not for the lack of trying!
You're welcome, Torrus. Thanks NN for maintaining this database.
Excellent - a 4-barrel Magnum, right? Glad to hear it is brought back to its former glory.Njord, I 'borrowed' the image - reminded me of my '70 R/T (dark green/white top, 440-4V)
