Connecting XLR to Standard Speaker Wire Jacks

My Luxman R 1050(purchased new) is the amp I am most fond of. At present when turned on, after the time-delay relay operates I get a sound similar to waves breaking on a beach which fades away after 30 secs or so. Transistor or old PS caps, anyone? If you have intermittent cut-out I can help.

By-product. Would be hard to design a contact pair that had the low impedance loss characteristics without being able to pass a certain amount of current, no?

The design goal of the XLR series was continuous shielding, and shield/ground first to make, last to break contact.

More than one audio manufacturer that i(and many others) hold in high regard make specific notes in their manuals that XLR's are NOT speaker connectors.


I would go with the British Broadcasting Corporation's view. They designed the speakers.

I'll stick with the views of Canon, Switchcraft, Crown, Westlake Audio, JBL, and a host of other manufacturers whose engineers are fully aware that XLR's were never designed to be speaker connectors, and the competent audio technician worth his salt would never use them as such.
