Convince Me to Not Buy a Pioneer SX-1980

Oops, double use, i mean power amp.
That is correct, none of these receivers are designed for industrial/commercial usage.

The SX 1250 has a way better phono output than the 1980 and 1280 it also sounded better driving my Wilson Audio Alexxas just saying those are the best speakers made. And that’s the olympics for the three Amps The 1250 sounded the best. Honorable mention spec4 amp. I own 1280 and 1980 yes they are loud but to tell you the truth the 1250 is the best damn thing that ever came off the factory line!!

The Pioneer designer(s) could have used the 1250 or the 1280 phono designs in the 1980, if they wanted to, but they did not, why is that?
If saving $, or as you say they sound better, was the objective, those 1250/1280 designs are much cheaper in parts $, than the 1980 design.
One could evaluate the 1980 phono all on its own, connect the rec o/p into the 1250, try it that way, see if you have the same impression.

I have a 1250 (restored). Audio grade caps throughout and film caps where they will fit. Sounds wonderful (very detailed). Sold my two Rowland M1s and still have the 1250.

Since this is still going another strike against the 1980 are the oddball four legged output transistors. .

It's an old thread and I think it's all been said. This dead horse's bones have been picked by the vultures, bleached in the sun, and used to beat another dead horse.
