Copyright variation...circle P?

I saw a record where the 'circle C' for copyright was replaced by a 'circle P' with date. What does that mean?

Thanks

℗ = sound recording copyright symbol, used in Europe since mid 1960s and in The States since 1971.
You know what? In all of my years owning musical source material, I never noticed that. However, the very first CD I picked up has it that way, I have now learned my quota of new things for the day.

Enjoy,
Rich P

Yeah, reflects a change in copyright law.
As I recall, the effective date was 1972 in the U.S.
Prior to that, you couldn't copyright a sound recording....it only applied to songwriting.
