I know why you did! To much of what people think is a good thing can sour quickly. Any speaker that is ported or horn loaded needs an amp with great woofer control to stop the ringing and reduce resonances and that is what the SS amp section is doing for you with your Cornwall iV's. Now some speakers that are in sealed boxes may make owners of tube amps happy because the tube amps allow a little freedom for the over damped woofers. I found that out auditioning S5 and S3 Magico type I and type II preferring Mcintosh MC 275 MK IV amps pushing the speakers. The 275 MK IV allowed alto and bass clarinets, Bassoons and Euphoniums to have a more real life sound. My better half had played lower clarinets including Contra bass clarinet and she agreed the little 275 gave a much more realistic presentation from the S5 and S3 we auditioned. Its just like all speakers are not close to being right unless they have a synergistic relationship with the other components that make up the sound system.
I think the Cornwall IV is quite amazing when used with a MC 352. Wonder what will be the new La Scala and Cornerhorns with new horns and woofers will prefer for amps. Thats why I use direct coupled MC 207's power amps with my Bozaks to clean up and smooth out making the bass more realistic.
