Cornwall Version ID and Value Please

I've never been a fan of the klipsch sound but I would have picked those up for $450 - I'd assume you'd be able to get double that since they have the original boxes.

You stole 'em. Good Job. I bet the sound blew you away I know mine did. Get 'em up on stands about 16" from floor (tables LOL) and they really thump.
Here's the pair I scored for $50 Canadian only 15 min from my house - a Kijiji ad from a perfect stranger - rough cabs no grills and the "stands" came with. Pic is meant to show the tables used as stands and yeah I'm showing off a little__:biggrin:

P.S. You might want to check out Bob Crites website for crossover kits and parts - he's the man when it comes to restoring Klipsch and the crossovers are very reasonable. Lots of pics there too for easy reference. BTW was there a date stamped on the back?

Dave what amp are you using with your Cornwalls? These will replace my KG4s which are currently hooked up to a Pioneer SX-980 right now. Thinking maybe I should start down the tube path in time but I'm clueless about tube stuff (and most audio stuff lol).

Don't refinish them too much... New grill cloth and a high grit sanding is all they should get. Raw birch, no finish. Do not apply one...

I would think a finish is desired for protection. Raw birch (like any wood) will easily stain, soaking up dirt, dust, and moisture. If anything spills on raw birch the staln will have to be sanded away. Dust, humidity, and exposure will eventually turn raw birch grayish. There are threads on the klipsch forums about finishing raw birch. One suggests that to keep natural color and to avoid yellowing which will come with use of oil, polyurethane should be used..

I'd be surprised if Klipsch sold raw birch with the idea or intention that they would not get any finish. I don't that much about Klipsch, but i do know birch plywood.

I have them hooked up to a Sansui BA-2000 using a Marantz 1150D as a preamp.

Yea I'm sure it was in expectation of people doing their own custom finishing.

I did a thorough search here and couldn't find a how to on refinishing these.

That is because wood is wood. There are many threads that include "speaker refinishing" in the title. I have little experience but believe you need to know if they are (a) oiled, or (b) varnish, shellac, polyurethane coated. If (a) you can rub a rejuvenating oil on them. Easy. If (b) then I believe you need to strip them first. I think a basic furniture refinishing article would be a good place to start. Also may be posts over on the klipsch forum (just google klipsch raw birch refinishing). Best of luck.

Thanks. I get that. Someone mentioned there was a specific thread on refinishing these so I thought it would be nice to see it and the results.

Can someone please ID what version these are and how much you would you pay needing refinished View attachment 887059 View attachment 887060 and new grill cloth.

Thank you!

I have a pair just like it also. I paid 4-5 hundred about 3-4 years ago and thought I got a good deal. The original owner stained them a walnut color and then clear-coated them. They look decent.... but they sound magnificent. I did the crites Caps and diaphragm, and then reversed them, liking the originals better. They are a forever speaker IMO. Great grab! ...and boxes too. Yep, you got a good deal for sure! Congratulations!

IMG_0835.JPG IMG_0838.JPG I paid $900 for mine with the updates and will never sell them.they are raw birch with a dark stain and actually match my heresy's which only cost me $40
