Cornwalls, G9000DB, and RSL Speedwoofer 10S?

My "sub woofer" output of the track #2 had some information, but the level was so low it didn't add much.

I do find that each source I use has its own level of "sub" bass emphasis. Plus some have none, or purposely cut off.

For what I have to compare = FM radio, vinyl, CD, DVD, Interweb PC to dac to stereo rig, Smart TV with interweb to Stereo.

Then some movies have magical bass tracks, some are tin flat.
I do find my self not listening or switch off if my source has lousy sound quality.

fwiw I have a pair of subs hooked up along with my Cornwalls, I have them on so you can barely hear them. they really fill out the low end

I am using the center channel out of my Fisher 400, with a Y splitter to feed both subs

the L/R outputs go directly to the Cornwalls

I have things dialed in now and, as folks indicated, 90% of the time I am aware of no difference than before subwoofer purchase. That said, the website below was of great assistance in helping me determine that there is something WAY down there that I wasn't getting.

"If your system has been properly set up, the level of all these kick drums should remain the same, whatever the file and condition.

You will hear a difference though, as each kick offers a different depth. A better subwoofer will discriminate among all the kicks easily. But remember, the only difference you should hear will be in the frequency range, not the loudness."

I'm crossed over at 50 hz, gain is at nine o'clock on a knob that goes to 5 PM. From what I can tell, that's not very high and not very loud but it works well with Cornwalls that are likely pushing down beneath 40 hz on their own. All controls are run flat.

I use three songs to test for those ubiquitous sub sonics.

Sk8tr Boi by Avril Lavigne
Star Trek from Children of Man
Not Fragile by Bachman Turner Overdrive

I find these songs depend on a good amp and good speakers. If you aren’t getting subsonics from these songs, your amp isn’t putting out enough current using Cornwalls. I get it on all these songs using my MC2205.

The Star Trek song is called “Sleepy Shores”, song 4 in the Children of Man sound track. You get the early Star Trek theme song and as it plays, you have the near subsonic sound of a spaceship moving by with engines on idle. Very cool!

Do you get that near subsonic sound near the beginning of Sk8TR Boi?

Note that after approximately five years of continuous and daily use, one of the subwoofer amps started motorboating. I contacted RSL (obviously out of warranty on electronics) and they shipped me a replacement for ~$100 that arrived in three days.

As such, I can vouch for their excellent customer service now, too.
