CR-1000 Protection Relay clicks, but no sound

I have a CR-1000 I purchased at auction early this year. I am just getting round to looking at it after putting my CR-1020 right for my son. When I p[ower on, things look good, & the protection relay clicks suggesting things are OK. But, I get no sound from either A/B speaker outputs, or through the headphone jack.

Any thoughts on where to begin on this? I am just wading in today.

Thanks for the quick idea. I checked, & the coupling switch is set to On, so that seems not the issue. I did exercise the switch though....seemed OK.

I checked the obvious earlier today...the power amp board fuses. All 4 looked good during a quick inspection. If I pull the power amp boards & heatsinks, I will test them. As I wade in, I will begin with the least invasive tests, before moving to any disassemply.
 
OK...partial success...I now get some sound on both channels on my headphones...no speakers connected...will do that next...but, the sound is too quiet. Thinking of your advice to another query where you point towards cleaning all switches & sliders...a definite need, I suspect.
 
Yes...getting the meter out sometime this week. Just took an initial look so far. Planning to clean all pots & switches that I can next weekend.

Nevermind if your getting sound from the headphones.The fuses are good. Deductive reasoning..
 
A very thorough dusting & cleaning needs to be done before I move ahead with anything deeper, I think. I will follolw up on this post next weekend, or sooner if anything sig inficant comes up. Again, thanks.
 
I have been pretty successful this week with getting an old Nakamichi cassette deck working for my son, & a Sansui QD-5500 working for me. Of course the Nak had been since the beginning, & I knew it was good, except maybe for belts, rollers, & lube. Didn't need much. The Sansui was another purchase, but it is working well...built like a tank...even the heads are in good shape. A b;essing.
 
Cleaned all switches & pots, except the sliders. Good progress so far. The sliders definitiely need some love, as sound volume & passthrough are poor & unpredictable when sliding loudness & balance.

avionic, you mention disassembling the sliders. From my looking at them, disassembly seems to require demounting from the boards...is that right, or is there an easier path?
 
avionic...thanks for the quick reply. It certainly looked that way, but I wanted an expert confirmation. They need the effort, so that will be my weekend activity.
