CR-1000 Protection Relay clicks, but no sound

OK...some progress...slide pots demounted, disassembled, cleaned & lubed & reassembled & mounted. Loudness & balace now work as intended. Bass & treble seem not to do anything still...re-did those pots a 2nd time. I also cleaned the front panel switches, as they were an issue. They all work effectively again. Lastly, I cycled the rear pre-amp switch repeatedly.

I had it playing well & at volume & I was ecstatic, but prematurely. I reassembled everything & moved it to its spot, & when connected, I had a reoccurance of the quiet volume again...which continues.

I do not feel that the pots/switches are the issue anymore, though they were in a poor state. I am currently inspecting boards & connections prior to possible pcb component testing.

I see questionable pin connections on the rear of the tone amp board...see the photo below. Pins 1-5, top to bottom, look particularly bad. Pin 4 looks like its path on the board is possibly disconnected, & pin 5 looks completely so.

Any advice on how to fix these? I am OK soldering & desoldering, but I have never tried to fix something like what I see here.

Agree probably a preamp issue though it would be nice to confirm, ie, coupler set to OFF, connect iphone/ipod/ixxxx to main
in at minimal volume, slowly increase, confirm full clear audio out.

Clean up the board with acetone or alcohol to remove all that excess flux. Then eyeball with good lighting and magnification. Then ohm out traces in question from the pin in question to another point on the same trace.

Cleaning that pcb makes sense to me. Would QD Electronic cleaner work? Would a soft bristle toothbrush be useful/harmful together with that?

Input at the pre-in could be interesting as well. I may try that.

Thanks gentlemen.

Acetone & most other solvents are an issue for me...asthma & other breathing issues. I wil try other options, as mentioned above. Thaks again for the feedback & advice.

Suppose I revive this thread?
Same unit. Same problem.
All I've done so far is replace the fuse holder and power up. No sound.

Ok. Thanks for helping me navigate the forum. I may test a couple things and button it back up. I'm getting ahead of myself with this one. I should be working on my semi-donor units and gain more board level experience..
