Creaky Tonearm?

Hi,

I have a Mitsubishi DP-EC1 that's been great but recently has been giving me some trouble. The mechanism is fully automatic and when I press the start button, the tonearm makes a creaky/squeaky sound while moving toward the platter and would fall short of the record. This problem went away after I set the anti-skate to zero and back to the original setting but I'm still concerned about an underlying issue. Has anyone experienced anything like this or has any knowledge they could share?

Thanks

Sounds like the automatic linkage may be sticking a bit, if you are mechanically inclined these things usually are not hard to fix.

Welcome to AK, umm interesting user name...

There are two belts inside the turn table, check their condition :

vertical drive motor

horizontal drive motor

See page #27 of the service manual
https://www.vinylengine.com/library/mitsubishi-diatone/dp-ec1.shtml

The belts are show on page # 31 of the service manual as belt #4 and belt #5.

Also check (clean and apply new if necessary) the lubrication on the two motor drive gears.
