Why would a EV 12trxb use a single cap as a crossover, but the 12 TRX , which is a lot heavier in both magnets, uses a large X36 crossover...any ideas why, and what advantage does that offer?
Magnets have nothing to do with the crossover. The crossover is all about shaping the response of the various drivers so they fit together to form a single reponse that you're looking for. If the trxb has a "polite" rolloff for both woofer and tweeter then a single cap may be all that's needed to roll off the tweeter and protect it from low frequencies. The trx, on the other hand, may not have a smooth rolloff and may need additional shaping from a more complicated crossover.
