custom cabinets?

I am about to start building a pair of speakers using a crites cw1526 driver,k55v mids,k-77 tweeters and type b networks. I will be making these look much like the altec model 19 since i have always liked the look of that design. The internal cubic inches will be kept very close to a cornwall cabinet and i will match the porting also.I will be mounting the tweeter and mid on the separate top section. I would like to see pictures of what others have done using klipsch components if there are any out there.I will post some pictures as i build these.

The model 19 seems to be very popular as always. The project you are about to start building looks very interesting to me as I hope to begin my own somewhat similiar project in the not too distant future. Not with Klipsch drivers but rather using some modern drivers along with the traditional.

I look forward to following your project Mike. Enjoy!

Well this project will take some time but i do have a picture of one of the cabinets minus the motor boards and backs.I am using a quality US made 3/4 birch ply for the cabinets, motor boards and backs.I will take more pictures soon with the holes routed for the speakers and the motor boards in place.

Nice looking woodwork. Some cherry veneer, or as I fantasize, burled walnut would really make them pop.

qemaster, these will be covered in a very high quality plastic laminate that looks just like the wood species they represent.I have a few choices of laminate but i am pretty sure i will go with oiled teak since it looks so much like the real thing.i will have more pictures soon of the progress.

That works! Teak is fine stuff!

My project is not going as fast as i would like but i did make some more progress today.I got the holes routed in the motor boards and got them mounted.Next will be cleating for back panels and some glued in bracing on the back side of the woofer motorboard.

You could make it a stunning two way with a pair of these EV HP940 I would bet my money they would outperform a set of 19's no problem. Ev Have smaller horns but you have the room so it would be a waste to go smaller and the DH1 is a stellar driver, icing on the cake. I look forward to the seeing the results of both builds. Only one other word from me brace brace brace. Best regards Moray James.

Brace all panels by dividing them length wise with a substantial brace minimum size would be 3/4"x2 1/2" hard ply. Use 1"x2" strapping to tie all braces together side to side and front to back at multiple points. Small hardwood or hard plywood blocks and 45's can be used to strengthen along intersecting panels. Cross baffle braces between drivers and horns, this is a good place to also use 1"x2" strapping to connect these braces to the rear baffle if possible.
in the attached link you can see a retro brace job done on a pair of Klipsch Quartet loudspeakers. Best regards Moray James.

Here are pictures of a retro brace job on a pair of Heresy 3 all material is 3/4" oak as maximum strength is required using the smallest braces possible so as to use up minimum volume.

Well i managed to get one cabinet laminated and painted so i thought i would share a picture.Next i will of course get the other cabinet to the same point as this one then it will be time for some insulation on the interior and backs.I am anxious to get these done and i think these should sound very good with my Jolida 102 or my Mcintosh ma5100.I will post more pictures as soon as i get the backs on and the crossovers mounted.

Matched the grain from the top cab to the bottom. Nicely done. Love the styling of the Altec 19's. This is a unique twist! :thmbsp:

I was wondering if anyone would notice the grain match. That type of thing is what i do for a living building luxury motor coaches and i like to add those touches to my home projects as well. These cabinets are getting heavy and i do not even have the drivers installed yet.

Sorry for the lack of photos and information but i have been without a computer for a couple of weeks.I will post some pictures of the finished speakers soon. The sound is even better than i had expected.
