CX 830 question

Hello,

Just joined and have a question.

I have a cx 830 without remote and I think it's muted. Is there a way to unmute w/o the remote?

Is the muting LED lit up?

If so, you can reset the unit by shorting out C74 (4.7mF 5.5v super capacitor).





That capacitor is there to keep the micro alive just enough to remember the last input settings and the activation of the muting.

Good question, so I looked and yes the mute light is on.

I may have to take it in as I have zero electronics training or skills.

If you can get your hands on just about any other Yamaha remote that has a mute button on it it will be worth trying to use it to turn the muting off. Yamaha remotes are fairly universal within the family.

Most local stores would have a Yamaha AVR remote floating around- that may un-mute your CX-830.

If you can't find another remote or don't want to mess around inside your machine, send me a PM and I can mail you a remote that should do the trick.

So does the shorting the circuit work for sure, without damaging anything else? Is it something a non techie can do?
