Regnar does put the values on the caps but the label covers the manufacturer information if they buy caps that are not made without this info to keep the information proprietary. If you look at Regnar's site you will see their prices seem a bit high but they are a specialist and that comes with the territory. This is what makes your speakers a good purchase.

The woofers have a shiny finish to them in the pics. Although the Advent style woofer (12" basket, Masonite ring to make a 10" cone fit) has ribs, the cone has a flat sheen finish to them. The foam around the woofer is also new looking. Where are you located? Curious because these look professionally redone not some hobbyist using the Regnar kits.

My thought exactly. I don't recall the original woofers having ribs, but they certainly don't have the gloss finish. Either way, I bet they sound incredible. You got an awesome deal. No need to question that point.

I'm running a Monitor Audio ASW-210 sub. I, too, found 50hz to be just about right to fill in the bottom end.



I'm really enjoying all the recommendations. I'll put this one on my playlist for tomorrow.

I did manage to find a little extra listening space. It's amazing how much these things will shrink a room. I think my next step needs to be acoustic room treatments. Hardwood floors (w/area rugs) and vaulted ceilings throughout this room. Any ideas? DIY panels or budget friendly commercial options?

I have mine in a dedicated 11x13 room. I treated the back of the room with fabric covered 2x2 acoustic ceiling tiles. Just enough to absorb some of the top end reflection from behind. Since DQ-10's are semi-open baffle it doesn't make sense to me to dampen the reflections from the walls behind and adjacent to the speakers. That's where some of the magic comes from.

I'm in PA and picked these up from a guy in OH who said the PO had the restoration work done.

Thanks for the info. Looks like you have a very nice setup! I think I'll treat the wall directly behind my listening position and see how that helps.

Here's a quick (and crooked ) iPhone video of the DQ-10's in action. This is playing the last few minutes of Dire Strats' Private Investigation at a moderate volume. The video really emphasizes the top end making them sound a bit brighter than they are. Don't get me wrong, they are what I would consider bright, but not overly so.

Note that of the speaker's 5 drivers only the cone midrange could possibly radiate to the rear and it's rear is covered by a heavy piece of felt. I assume the speaker system is intended to act totally as a monopole and the felt was a more practical way to contain the midrange driver's back wave than a seperate box.

Lively indeed. Moving them out from the wall much more will interfere with through travel from the back door. The wall directly behind the sectional is roughly 10-12' high. I'm going to try a few acoustic panels on this wall to see if that helps tame some of the reflections.

Difficult to do what is sometimes recommended for Magneplanars. Park them back against the wall and move them out when you are sitting and listening. Some do this but the DQs are not really set up to just grab em and move em out a few feet. Might be worth a try to see what you have but I understand the lack of opportunity to leave them out. Best then to treat the room to get the sound right.

Hey, thanks for the info! I'm still enjoying the DQ-10's. While they're not currently in rotation, they're keepers for sure. If any of you want a closer look, here's a video that I took while I had them apart for cleaning.

Even shot with an iPhone, you can hear these are very good. You did quite well with these!
I heard an early pair of these for the first time last month an an AKers house and was impressed with how they sounded. They were setup about 8-10 feet apart, about 2-3 feet from the wall. Terrific spacial sound stage. He had a small sub to help the bottom end. We mostly listened to vinyl, and a brief listen to some streaming classical.

In your first post you mentioned that they are a bit bright. I've never heard that about these speakers before. Perhaps it's the Regnar upgrades. My buddy has a pair and I would not say they are bright. His have not been recapped yet though.

It's possible it's an effect of the recap or simply my system synergy. Mine are definitely bright. Even when I had them on tube monos they could be a bit brash in the upper frequencies.

My DQ-10's are serial # 28499 and 28497 mirror imaged, they happen to be listed in BT since my wife doesn't like the fact she can't put any knick knacks on top of them.
