Dahlquist DQM-9 Woofers - worth re-foaming?

Hello all,
Today I purchased a pair of Dahlquist DQM-9 speakers for $25 on FB marketplace. The drivers are electrically sound (tested with a meter). However, the cones of the woofers look a bit crumpled. They are intact and have no rips or damage. Is it worth putting new surrounds for these woofers? It is costing around $25 for the foams. Is it worth my time to re-foam these woofers? Also, the front grills are in bad shape. The actual frame is made of cardboard. The previous owner has ripped the strips that go across. Any idea how to fix the grill covers? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The question is, "Why not?" These series Dahlquest were very nice sounding speakers. I have some DQM - 3's that I have used up until recently. Mine are bookshelf speakers, so a sub was needed. The 9's should be even better. And for a 25 buck start, your still out very little. Now, the woofers may also need a recone. This would be great to learn to do, on speakers that you get cheaply.

As to the grill, Parts Express carries the correct cloth so I would pick up some and get these things up and running. If you don't like them, you should get back your money if not more on resale.

Yes!!!! 10000% yes!

I’ve reformed two pair myself. Some of the best sounding speakers I’ve owned. 25 bucks will unlock the magic!!!

Also 25bucks!!!!! Two pair in my area on Cl for 650. He’s nuts but these sell easily in the 400 range. Great score.

Those woofers need re-coning imo, not just re foamed surrounds. Add those prices up to determine if it's financially advisable. As little as you have in them, you could probably sell at a profit if they don't meet your expectations.

Thank you all for your feedback. I have ordered the surrounds for the woofers. I will give it a try and see if it works.
I did an extensive search for the replacement cones for the DQM-9 woofers but don't see them. Does anyone know if these are available in the US?

Hello all,
I got the foam kit from SimplySpeakers.com. I plan to refoam these and try before deciding to send it to Regnar folks. One thing that I noticed is that the cone has pretty stiff resistance to moving up. I have not seen this much resistance to moving up. I don't hear any scratching sound when I move them up and down but it takes a great deal of pull to pull them up. It is the same for both the woofers. Is this normal for these woofers? Second, how can I keep them up during refoaming process? Thanks for any inputs.
