HI all,

I just picked up a pair of m909's at my local Goodwill for $94.99 I think this is a pretty good deal, but there isn't too much info on these on google.

They're in excellent condition and work great. I can't believe someone would just give these away.

You won't find much info here either. They are VERY rare speakers. I happen to have a pair also so I know of which I speak. As far as I know there is only one other member on the site that has them.

$100 is a good price for those speakers, sometimes they go for stupid money. Very excellent speakers IMO.

Dalhquists

Wow.... I just picked up a set of the 907's from my local GW this past week...waiting on the Surrounds kit from looneytune2001. Very excited to hear what these can do.
Link to some pictures of mine.

Wow, that's great. What did you pay for yours?

Here's a few photo's of one of my speakers

Yikes...Those look much more awesome than mine....! Your surrounds look like rubber?
I like the black velvet material on the face.
I had literally never heard of these speakers until I walked into GW last week and found my pair. Come to find out they are very well built and recognized.
I couldn't believe how heavy they were....which was a clue to their quality.
I paid $25 for the set...but now I have to learn how to re-foam...sigh!
Those look awesome.....how do they sound? and what are they replacing?

Thanks! The surrounds feel like some type of foam to me. Even if you have to refoam yours, $25 is a great deal.

I haven't really been able to crank them up yet as the wife was rolling her eyes already with them. They are rather large in our smaller living room. I have a pair of Leaks that (can't remember the model number) that I also got at goodwill last year for $30 They're a great quality speaker from the late sixties...real solid wood cabinets....Really great sound, but you need a sub as there's not much in the low end.

Here's a couple pics of them

Sladerunner... Unless yours have been refoamed and different dust caps were put on when the job was done. I don't think the woofers in yours are originals.

I'm confused.
I thought all the M series Dahlquists had Vifa woofers with the butyl rubber surrounds???

I know mine do. My 909's (and every other pair of 909's I've seen) also have some weird goopy stuff that covers the the VC cap. That's what leads me to believe that his woofers are either not original or they have been re-edged and a different material was used.

Curiosity got the best of me. I just opened one up and they are Vifa woofers

Yeah I was pretty sure yours were Vifas. I'm just wondering if they are the originals. I have a feeling that they are but for some reason the VC caps were changed. The size of the VC caps on yours don't look like any that I've seen that are original to Vifa drivers.

I know what you mean about the "goopey" dimpley dust caps, however Vifa has employed different types of dust caps on their offerings. I was just suprised to hear "foam".

May I know the specs of the DQM909?

Is it bi-wire?

Just to clarify: This is a ported speakers?

How does it compare with the DQ10 sonic character?

Thanks for the pics.

The 3-way ported ones are more efficient than the A.S. DQ series. So you don't need a hippo amp for yours, but I'd use a beefy one anyway.

Carl's designs are very good. Set it up right and you might get very spoiled... work with placement and you can get them to image.

What do you mean image?

I just wanna ask if the "DQM" stands for DahlQuist "Marantz"? I was told that this great speakers was designed by Marants for DQ. I just got a pair & it was dynamic, the design was treatment friendly that i don't need to treat my room. I've noticed that it like to be near the wall. That is why it was 2ft from the wall.

I guess the M stands for Magnat, the German company that made several of the models for Dahlquist, including the DQM-9 and 9c that I had.

High quality gear.

Don't blow any drivers as they are a pain to find ever since Vifa discontinued those 'classic' drivers. I bought a pair of m905 with a blown woofer and sending out to be rebuilt. I've looked for a replacement and only found them in Germany and Thailand.
