Dalhqist dq10 speakers worth it?

Have a chance to pick up a pair of Vintage 1984 dahlquist dq10 speakers that sound good work well, with stands,in VGC and come with a pair of new boards that were never installed yet for $600 ,, worth it or not. What speakers with today's new technology could I get for that $600 price point that would even compare?

Don't know much about new speakers that will compete at this price point but someone might have recommendations. Value of the DQs, needs to be answered in dollars and sense forum/
 
DQ-10s that have been recapped, had woofers refoamed and which are mirror imaged command the highest price.

What you get is a nice sounding vintage speaker that images well if placed properly, and which does an neat trick of integrating five drivers into a coherent sound. Vocals and piano sound very good on the DQ-10. They are inefficient and take some strong amplifiers to drive them. The bass rolls off quickly below 50hz, so many add a subwoofer.

I liked the set I had, but let them go to move to Magnepans.
 
I just picked up a pair of DQ-10's and absolutely love them. Mine are a mirrored pair that have been re-capped and re-foamed by Regnar. For the price I paid ($350) I can't imagine another set of speakers coming close. I pair mine with a sub to handle 50hz and below. I have a thread not too far back that has some good information about the DQ-10's if you're interested.
 
The price you mention seems a bit high unless they are extremely clean, recapped and have fresh foams.

As mentioned, they could benefit from a subwoofer, powerful amp and room to breathe. Set up properly they can be quite enjoyable.
 
that seems high but they speakers are definately worth it. IMO, they are the best bargain invintage eelctronics.

As others have said, they need lots of power and sub woofers.
 
Matt's thread has a bunch of my comments. Added value for you is the extra crossovers you could sell after you put new ones in the speaker, less that work. Too high in my opinion.
 
$400 restored is a good price. The other problem I've run into is hardened/cracked rubber surrounds on the Phillips mid bass drivers. DQ-10's driven by a big solid state amp and paired with a few nice subs sound really good, especially if you can get them a couple feet or more away from the wall.

I have some with subs and lots of amp. They are vastly superior to a pair of restored la scala I own. Not even close. I like them both but DQ 10 are special when done correctly
