Prices seem to be all over the map on these things on ebay. $250-$700, with some of the wood cased units selling cheaper than the ones without?!?

I got a call back... The guy can't meet until thurs at noon. I'm gonna check it out. So realistically, I'm thinking its a fair price, right? I mean, I just sold my 2220b without a wood case for $200 last week. This has more power AND the case for a bit more. No brainer, right?

Yeah, I saw his ad for the klipsch.... two pair for $350 or so? I think they were 2's and 4's, but my memory isn't perfect. I don't need them and don't feel like trying to flip them, so I figured someone else could have them.

I set up last night with this guy to come get it after he got off work at noon. I called him at 11:30 today and he said he had another guy coming now. I officially label this guy as a loser.

I had this very thing happen to me. Hell the guy I was dealing with said,

" you tell me that your gonna be here I will put your name on it,and it is yours. After all a man has only his word to go on, if a man don't have that then he has nothing"

I agreed with his sentiment. The next day he text me and said someone offered him $75.00 more then our agreed upon price, which our agreed price was his asking price. I guess I found out his word and worth was only $75.00. I understand making money. However he was the one who made the big deal about a mans word........WHAT A LOSER.

You might have offered him slightly more to pull ad and promise it to you. It works 9/10 if ya really want it and don`t wanna chance someone else jumping in. I`ve had more than one seller tell me they knew I was a serious buyer and were happy to get a little more, especially if it`s a good deal to begin with.

I did the "pull the ad" thing on a pair of JLB L5's a couple months back, only minutes after the ad was up. I was the first caller. The guy could meet me in two hours. An hour later, I called to start heading that way and he said he was going to sell them to someone who just called ad offered twice his asking price. He said I could beat that price, if I wanted... I passed.

No sense getting disgusted. It only took a couple of minutes to find out the guy is a schmuck. He has to BE that schmuck for the rest of his life. The right deal is just around the corner. There is ALWAYS something better out there. A GREAT price would be say, $10. Keep beating the bushes- My best stuff has come from people I know that are aware that I like this kind of stuff.

The only word for that individual is "LOSER" and I am sure that he now knows his word isn't worth two cents. Hey what goes around comes around and people like that usually end up getting burned on a deal, his time will come.

Reading this reminds me of the time that I inquired about a piece of audio equipment from a seller on CL and when I called we agreed on a price and set up a time to meet the next day. Tells he that he is all excited because I had been the only call that he has had on it. We hang up then just over an hour later he calls me back and says that someone just called and offered him $100 bucks more. Right at that moment, when he tells me this, I was convinced on exactly what type of individual that I was dealing with so my response was quick and simple, I just said....."hey if that individual is offering you $100 bucks more for it than why call me? Then sell it to him!" and then I hung up.
Get this, two days later he calls back and leaves a message that the individual that was going to offer him $100 bucks more for it looked at it then decided that he wanted to pay less for it and say's it's mine for the price that we had originally first agreed on.
Yea sure right dude, go get ****ed, your loss not mine!

I'm not too upset. It would've been a nice piece, but I didn't 'need' it at the moment. I just sold my 2220b and replaced it with a vintage realistic that I really like. I was going to put this marantz in action and put the realistic back on the shelf. I'm happy with the realistic, though. It's my Cornwall system, which I don't use a ton anyway.

Damn, sorry to hear that janik. That sucks that he told you to meet today then went ahead and sold it to somebody else. With craigslist you have to push to get it as quick as possible if it is a great deal. I would have loved to pick this up for $250. you could probably get at least $400 for it if you wanted to flip it, and that is being modest. I've sold a 2252B for $300 here in Austin with no wood case. It was an easy sell too.

Yeah, I asked to meet that night and he said he couldn't. He said that we'd meet the next day at noon, after he got off work - he worked nights. I would've definitely gone as soon as possible, if he agreed to an immediate meeting.

Yup, sketchy sellers everywhere- just ran into this same thing. Price posted, agreed to meet next day, called the seller to meet next day and magically the price went up and he agreed to sell to another buyer. I told him it was BS and that he should offer me the same deal, it was only $35 more- the seller agreed and I got the unit. If you adverstise something cheap , be prepared to sell it at the price you asked or be labelled a douche bag. If sellers want to do the auction thing stick it on ebay, that's not what CL and kijiji is for. Sorry to hear it fell through Janik, that would have been a sweet unit to own and restore.
