Damaged Marantz Model 500 power amplifier

I recently purchased a Marantz Model 500 power amplifier. The lower left corner of the front panel was severely bent (see photo) during shipping. I am soliciting opinions of how much the amp has been devalued by this damage.

I would say the damage to the faceplate is bad enough that it knocks the value down by half, maybe more. As good as it may still sound, I couldn't stand to look at it!

Easily straightened but from experience the aluminium will always have weird crease marks. I'd consider the value Dropped by 25% or the price of a new faceplate
 
Thanks for all the replies. I have extended experience repairing Marantz equipment and have straightened front panels before. They never look like new but I can make it look a lot better. If I ever want to mount this in a rack, it will need to straightened or broken off. I have never attempted to straighten a front bent as severely as this one. I trust my ability to repair more than I would even trust a metal shop.
 
Damn. That must have taken a very hard hit to be damaged that badly.
Deduct cost of replacement faceplate and carefully test and inspect for any internal damage.

I have already decided to keep it but FedEx is not being very cooperative, that is why I am asking for suggestions here. I feel that I am due some compensation. This amp has a very strong chassis and it is very straight. I am not worried about internal damage.

This is why you simply need to return it to the seller. Why take on all this unneeded hassle? You will find another one.
And, you won’t get anything out of FedEx, unless they are the ones that packed it. This wasn’t packaged properly. The responsibility of delivering the item as described lies with the seller.
 
#1 reason to buy from AK or someone who regularly sells audio and knows how to pack ****. Then again those same people know items value and would likely cost you more upfront but at least it would still be cosmetically intact!!

FedEx convinced the seller that they could pack it better than he could, so he paid them for packing it.

Oh, if it was packed by Fedex they should be able to make a claim then.

I have seen a lot of items packed by Fedex that got smashed up, so don't ever do that, unless you want your item to get damaged.
 
I have already decided to keep this amp. I am only trying to ascertain the diminished value. The other comments about what could have been or should be done are irrelevant .
 
What was the declared value given the item. That is relevant and what FedEx will payout. You might have to fight them to cover the initial cost to pack the item as well!
