I have been trying to keep my head out of the on line classifieds as much as possible but I poked my head in and snagged some KLH17's for $15. These look like new, cabs look wonderful, grills don't even have a snag and badges intact. WOW. Notice in the background of the pic my other pair of KLH 17's. I get ride of my KLH23 stack and end up with a KLH17 stack.

I just can't help myself!

I feel your pain. I'm trying to keep my head out of the listings (and doing a poor job of it) and trying to keep my money in my pocket. I'm really running out of room allotted, but I came across some 3-way ADS this morning for a fair price and had to get them. Thrilled and discusted with myself all at the same time. And I dunno where I'm going to put them.

Awesome price for those KLHs, man. You couldn't pass them up, not for that price. No way in hell.

If you need to get rid of something to make room, start small. I've got my brother-in-law's father going back to Washington state, with the hi-fi bug in his ear.

He used to work with Radio shack and witnessed the 100 Mach 1s driven by the 50 amps (he told me what amps they were and I already forgot!). He said 100 feet away and he was watching the top of his cocktail ripple to the beat.

He'll gladly relieve a single pair of Minimus 7s off your hands, but nothing larger. :nono:

Glad I could be of some help!

I would not turn down deals on ADS speakers, I think that is one brand you must have. :D

Hey.

didja foam up those Advents yet? how'd they sound to you, my friend?

Yep, sound real good. I like them much better than the fried egg version. If they did not weigh a ton I would send them to you but shipping would be more than buying them local.

Bah, that's nothing. Those KLHs are so small you'd just about have to trip over them to find them in your collection. You only have the moral right to complain when the speaks are at least 3' in one dimension.

Btw, great score!

That's kind of you. You're a real good fella, Kelly.

I value your ear- I'll hold out for some 5002s/5012s unless a real sweet deal comes up otherwise on a fried egg Largie. How's the bass on them? Does it go nice and low as claimed? And do you think the tweet is more balanced? Smoother?

Who knows, if I don't dig those Micro Acoustics I've yet to listen to I might offer them in trade if you're interested. You and JP have first options if it's something you think you'd like. There's a third AKer in line after you two.

But I sure do want to spend some time with them and listen to that triple tweet array on the MAs. I hope it's a heavenly suprise. I'm a sucker for a good vocals speaker.

Did you know that Micro Acoustics used to make an add-on tweeter array sold here in Boston to bolt onto your ARs, Advents and KLHs? I've never seen one, but I keep my eyes peeled. Lotsa stores around MIT and Harvard carried 'em. I wonder how they hooked up. Info is scarce...

Oh, the ADS is a 3-way- I think a 9" or 10" woofer and a bubble tweet/mid. I blame you fully for me pulling the trigger. well, JP has some strong influence on me as well.

I really dunno where I'm going to put 'em...

Yes, I would say the dome on the 5012 is smoother and less harsh than the fried egg type. Bass is good. These all lack mid sparkle I have come to seek though and although very good speakers they do not really excite me. I think the ADS sound is much more to my liking. Oh, and blame Dingus, he turned me on to the ADS sound. I'm also guessing I might like the MA better as well.

I urge you to seek Genesis II's if you can as they are really eye opening with the authoritative bass response, nice mids and open airy HF. Pretty amazing for the simple drivers and XO. Something about these really get my attention. I know they are not high end speakers but they sure sing to me.

You may be the first to say the mid sparkle lacks- I'll really put some time into mulling over that one. Good to know. Maybe they wouldn't be to my liking after all.

Dingus is a saint as he helped me ID the ADS 570s I had "lost". It was key in naming the Brand/model in order for me to get them back.

Joining them soon will be a pair of ADS 630 3-ways. I couldn't resist. I just couldn't. Though I honestly tried. Lasted about 12 hours?

I pay much more nowadays to get what I want, because I can't make the deals I used to- I haven't got the doctor's note giving me the okay to go for a driving test, and it's a drag taking the subway to someone's house to pick up an amp or a speaker. Plus fear of dropping...

I'll put some Genesis 2s on the list to audition. Thanks for the tip.

And I'll report back to you when I finally get to listen to those Micro Acoustics. Who knows when I can get them set up. I almost tipped my wheelchair over moving the polk 7s. Having a bad back is a drag... Gotta wait for the brother-in-law, to come over and lend a hand. Luckily he's now into hi-fi due to me. I'll treat him well this Christmas.

He loves the BA A-70s the best, too... :scratch2:

Oh yes, they be fine speakes, mate! The sound is warm and rich as Mee Maw's gravy and the grill fabric weave is classic.

I love mine - paid the same dinero, as a matter of fact. Must be a price fixing war on (LOL). Except you got 'em badges and all. Mine were sans badges - looks like your other pair are missing them as well, as best as I can see. What is it, is there some frat somewhere using them for pledge pins or something? "Welcome to KLH, Brother! . . .now, assume the position!!!"

this is my 5th pair of vintage KLH's  If you ever get to hear a stack of 23's it is a real good sound.

I have some monster vintage TOTL KLH's I have never seen / heard in Boise Idaho. At least I hope they are still there :D

Re-cap 'em, and stack 'em. Then tell us how they sound. Lucinda Williams is playing right now through my 17s, and she sure sounds good. BTW mine also have the KLH badges, and IMHO they are an integral part of the sound. :D

What's the specs on the 17s? And what's the specs on the 23s? Drivers, driver sizes, boxes, you know...

I've got the Kloss Cambridge Soundworks Model 6s and 17s. Nice speakers, but totally different beasts. I'm sure the 17 KLHs are much larger than the CS versions. for sure.

23x12x9 for the 17's. Don't have the 23's any more but the cab volume must be about twice as big.
