Interesting. I just ran across this thread and as luck would have it I bought a David Grisman CD today at one of the used CD stores I frequent. It is The David Grisman Bluegrass Experience (DGBE). Haven't played it yet but it's in the "new finds - must play" stack.

Wasn't familiar with him until this past weekend when my son played the Jerry Garcia, David Grisman & Tony Rice cd - The Pizza Tapes. If I hadn't heard this one I'm sure I would have missed the DGBE.

The Tone Poems series is very good, if you're looking for the jazzier side of Grisman.

Joe beat me to it... The Tone Poems albums are great stuff. Check out #3 in particular.

Terry, a slight sideway slide here. Try Tony Rice's Unit Of Measure. I consider it the penultimate Tony Rice CD. (he was a member of the first rendition of the David Grisman quintet; 1976, Grisman, Rice, Anger, Phillips & Amatneek).

We are in my most favorite area of music here and I'm sorry I'm not in Atlanta anymore, we could get together for a day/evening of outrageous Bluegrass.

I have tapes of my "little brother" and his friends dating from the mid 60s when they performed around Atlanta live as a "folk group."

Now Bela I've known about for a while. I came to him through my interest in jazz and love Flight of the Cosmic Hippo. I haven't heard the New Acoustic Planet but the man can definitely play.

Ok, this has to be related here. I was working for Kimberly-Clark in LaGrange Ga. as the mill's senior Electrical Engineer. We had problems with some PROTOTYPE GE Digital DC drives and called in an Ex-GE field engineer, Steve Wallace (edit the name if you feel the need) who was most known for his postings on the Internet about uses of hemp.

But he was one of only 3 GE engineers who knew $hit about the GE DC-300/DC-600 drive. I'm not exaggerating here, GE delivered prototype drives to a customer.

During a lull in the chaos he found out that I liked Bluegrass and suggested Be'la Fleck and Run C&W as music that I would likely find appealing. This was just after the release of "Hippo."

Needless to say he hit the nail on the head with these two CDs. But, unfortunately, I have completely lost touch with him.

Strange person that he is, AND LET ME SAY STRANGE PEOPLE ARE MY THING, he has disappeared.

My loss.
