DB Plus 880 speakers - who has them?

Got a pair of DB Plus 880 speakers that need re-foam.
They have look and feel of white van but online threads mention they are made by Energy and 96 db efficient.
What's your opinion?
Also, will any 10" foam work or need something specific for them ?

Not made by Energy but by the parent company API. They sound quite a bit like Energy. The tweeter is very similar. I have the 880, 440 and 990. Not much to look at but very smooth sounding. Most of mine need refoaming but the cost of new foam is more than the speakers sell for so they sit unused. I was at one time going to use them for a basement HT setup. They really are a nice sounding speaker and the 880 is my favorite.

My 990s came from the Goodwill on S. Broadway in Denver. Brainsmasher, Brian, gave me the pair of 440s. Come to think of it the 880s came from Denver as well. SoundTrack, now Ultimate Electronics, sold DB Plus.

Wow... I just got a set today too.

Have you found a place to buy the surrounds from? I haven't had a chance to look yet.

I have a pair of 1010's that are in need of a refoam. Been thinking about it because I like the tweeters in these, but I wouldn't do it to sell them, just like cubdog said. There's not much point except maybe to recoup the cost of the refoam :scratch2:. And now with me having the W90's in play, I really-don't know what I'm gonna' do with the 1010's. It's a shame because they're in great shape too. These were hardly-used by the original owner. Maybe I can pair them with my Sansui 4000. It's just that I'm totally caught up in my main speakers at the moment. I really-don't know... Maybe they can be my first refoam project.

By the way, off-topic, but I'm listening to the Allman Bros' "Mountain Jam" off "Eat A Peach", and I just realized, the entire band is following Berry Oakley! Even the drummers are following his lead. That's wild. I wouldn't expect that in a two-drummer band.

If I was a DIYer I'd pull my tweeters and match them up with a different woofer and try them in a nice Parts Express cabinet. I bet they would sound pretty damn good.
Berry Oakley was an amazing bass player. He played it like he was playing lead guitar.

Not yet.
I'm pretty sure it uses standard 10" but I'll update after taking measurements and finding matching size.
Right now I have few others to re-foam first... Boston A400, JBL LX500 and Smaller Advents before this.
So, it may be at least few weeks before I can work on this one. :sigh:
 
I just picked up a pair of 880's in trade for a turntable. I'm really impressed! They sound awesome.

I would definitely recommend picking up a set if the opportunity arises.

Dang... it's already over 2 years since I got them and still haven't refoamed.
Hopefully, soon. Need to dig them out from under other speakers. :D
 
So after spending some more time with these I'm really happy with the sound, there's just one problem. I really don't think they're 96db sensitive. They're listed on the badge as 96db 2.83 V/1 Meter, but they're just slightly quieter then my KG's which are rated at 94db.

Still sound great, just not as loud as I was hoping.

Hello folk,

Life has been good to me, not so much visa versa ... As the recent few months have been more than exceptional,
luck / providence dropped Realistic's better made receiver in my lap (STA-2000) and a complimentary pair of Mach one speakers.

This configuration lead me to look into the systems compatibility and possible better suited speakers to replace or compliment the new. find.
Little research was required to soon realize that my taste outweighed reason and my budget.

So I dug into my own reserves (attic) knowing full well that the sub woofers in at least two pair would need to be replaced.
The Mach one speakers are fine enough, now that I've ran them through the gauntlet, although leaning more toward the bass.
The mid's and tweeters have been constructed with a wide range response in mind, placement is key as well as tweaking balance, treble, bass and volume to suit.
After removing the subs from the dusty Mission 700's and DB plus 880's (both are classified 10 min. 100 watt max, 8ohms) .
Time to experiment , (to much fun for a now greying kid)
The ( soft mid's ) in the 880's presented just the right desired frequency and surprisingly more than suffice, adding just the right level of balance to the systems high range demands.
The Missions do have a better built cabinet and reputation (made in France/England) assembled North of the 48th (Can.)
with much love and ascetics, which will be the more sought after replacement / rebuilds .
For now, I can relax and entertain my dogs who more often look to me in wide eyed wonderment ?

sorry but i have a question...sound track....did they sell drivers under that name??? woofs mids n tweets? i hav a set of 1979 jvc sk1000 speakers and the few replacement drivers iv seen on the bay for would say soundtrack on ther boxes

Sorry but I can't help you on that one. I never bought any drivers from ST nor have I done business with them in many years. Sorry.
