DBX Range Expanders with Impact Restoration availability.

Black Friday blessed me with even more 78s for a crazy price! I was lucky enough to clean out the entire inventory probably 200 loose discs and around 70 various albums, some commercial releases, some are the disc library kind with 10 discs each....given that most of the cardboard albums are poor but saveable, I felt like a robber only paying $40 for the lot. On the other hand he'd likely wanted rid of it all bad....Probably gonna split this out into its own thread geared specifically towards 78 playing, restoration and capture. Ive learned a ton already, some sites of which are dead and can only be viewed via IA wayback machine. One of the big things im wrestling with is (Author name's) method of taking an open reel tape copy of the 78s and working with it as a stable source. He seems to have had a decent amount of success and with the British wet play method mentioned here by (name), I could be working with way less surface noise than (author) started with...big snow day here in the Midwest so I plan on doing some reading and see if anyone has breached the topic in the last 5 odd years. I'd rather not retread ground someone else has recently...and I'll check the old old threads for info to collate into my potential thread.

I still have all my wife's and my lps. I have a dbx 118, huges ak-100 and BBE 862. The two latter units i got from a person who used to to fix up records he owned a transferred to tape. I have Technics sl1200m3d. Should I hook these all up for my record collections?

I've got a BBE 482i Sonic Maximizer - Red on the way from an ebay seller. Thanks for the tip on installing it in a Tape Loop to be sure I get a true Bypass when I want one.
I'll give it some airtime over the Christmas holidays and see if I like its impact, and on what. I don't do a lot of 78s, or vinyl either these days, tho I still have a JVC cassette deck in place for occasional playback of old mixtapes ... (Super ANRS anyone?)

The Hughes is one of the best surround spacializers I've ever used with fine tube adjustment to move the soundstage back and forth. Truly incredible stuff, and has none of the ear bleed syndrome that most processors of this type add. I think the whole SRS marketing was misleading at best but it did result in success and them getting purchased by Dolby for patents right around when Atmos was being developed......

Gadget came poorly packed with a rack mount ear sticking out of one end of the box and no power cord.
I had bad feelings about it, but I found the manual on the BBE website and scared up a spare power cord from some spare gear at the church!
I've been busy so it took a while to get time to pop it into the system and give it a shake down. I do have it in the Tape loop from the RL-11 preamp,
so I can switch from Source to Monitor to compare the sound. Its anything but subtle at the extreme clockwise settings, but back down is quite nice.
Listening to Marty Stuart's Space Junk album - (kinda rockabilly/surf guitar stuff) - the instruments stand out a bit more, better defined, crisper in some ways.
Easy enough to bypass it for more casual listening - but it sounds more like the band is in the room with us using the Acurus Amp, preamp,
and the Von Schweikert VR-4 speakers. $80 well spent!
