DC area gets rocked with storms yesterday evening

James, sorry to see the damage to your back yard and deck. It has been a weird spring and early summer, weather wise, in many parts of the US, including here. Good luck with the repairs.

Not that big of deal to us Ken, other than it's going to be interesting trying to get the landlord to get it all cleand up in time for us to use the deck this summer.. that and losing the shade...

Now if I owned it.. it would be a different story.. I would be seriously bummin..

That really sucks for ya'll out there, glad everyone's safe, even with no tunes. looks like a microburst, not that That's better than a twister.

It's the end of the world!!

Man! What a mess. Good to know everybody is okay. It's a shame to lose trees, even if they're not yours.

Oh no.. I've got tunes... There are good reasons to buy a Victrola :thmbsp:

As impressive as the trees is that smoker. Nothing there in the "before" picture, but there it is standing nicely on all fours in the "after" picture. Just like Dorothy's house in the Wizard of Oz.
:lmao: :lmao:

Glad no one got hurt.

We were looking at the grill talking about it last night.. there is a branch on the back side of it you can't see that had broken off, and is about 3 inches from the grill.. Had that branch not broken off before the tree hit the ground, the grill wouldn't be standing there in all it's glory...

I had just remembered this morning, there is a large 5 gallon crock with nice blue printing, and two wire handles that had a plant in it.. under the mess somewhere.. we are hoping it got missed too.. it was from her family, and probably pretty hard to find one even similar to it.. I'm sure it would sell for a hell of a lot if it was on e-bay. Going to try and find it tonight and hope..

I loved all the trees in your backyard from last years DC area meet-n'-greet!
Even if your landlord hustles his butt off....it wont be the same will it?
My trees came out OK....but our local park lost 1/4 of its big shade trees!

Nope.. it sure won't be the same any more... I'd be shocked if the deck even gets fixed back to original.. OH well.. at least I don't own it.. I'd be sick if I did..

You got that right. Some of those crocks are worth a few bucks, especially the big ones. I was looking at buying a couple of them when I lived down there.

We've got a small collection of them. We'll be adding a really nice 10 gallon crock and maybe a 5 gallon behive jug when we go back to STL.. but we're just hoping this one didn't get damaged.. one for the sentimental value to my wife, but secondly the rarity of it..

Simi, glad you're OK and hope your stuff is too.

If you could find a way to get those oaks sawed into boards, you could make all the speaker cabinets you wanted for the rest of your live & your friends too...

yeah.. It would be some really great lumber.. I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap to have sawn, but if anyone is interested, I can tell them where to find the trees..

The trick is getting it to the sawmill. If you're a redneck with a flatbed trailer and a winch, you can do it. Paying someone else to do it can get expensive. Round here they charge 25 cents a board foot for sawing, once you get the log to them. That's darn cheap for old growth oak.

You also need to make sure it doesn't dry out to fast and check. .25 a board foot is an amazing deal.

I remember one place I worked the boss' wife complained that they had charged her $400 to cut down and take away a Black Walnut from their back yard - I didn't have the heart to tell her. I'm sitting here with a backyard full of them.

Black Walnut Down

This talk of sawin' up trees has me curious -- a fairly big Black Walnut came down over one of my pasture fences.

Think there's a chance I can find someone to clear it for the wood? Would that be a bad deal for me?

There's a sawmill a bit south of me run by Mennonites -- they do have a phone in the sawmill office. I think I'll give 'em a call...

Valuable wood. I am sure they would be happy to help. :D
