DCM tf-500 VERY COOL!!

So, a little background. I run a Marantz 2265b with a Denon dp-47f turntable, equipped with an ADC Xlm ii improved cartridge. Nice little setup.

Now for the past couple of years I have consistently been running a set of Advent Legacy iii's with little desire to upgrade. I enjoy the neutral sound and they are very non- fatiguing. Certainly not the best, however, adequate for the small space I run them in. Very nice soundstage.

I have always been looking for upgrades here and there, but never wanted to spend the coin required for an adequate upgrade. I have my priorities, more vinyl. Anyways stumbled upon a set of the DCM's and after some quick research, decided to pull the trigger and boy am I truley amazed.

I am a sucker for a nice soundstage in my listening sessions. That's why I enjoyed the Advents. Really the first speakers I had that weren't, "party speakers". The DCM's give me what I love about the Advents plus more natural sounding voices. More so when listening to the radio. I do about 90% vinyl listening and 10% radio. I don't bother with CD or any other form of media through this setup. They excell in the jazz and acoustic department, making the music truely come alive.

So, in a nutshell very pleased. The only drawback I can see is that the DCM's require a little more power on the volume knob than the Advents and lack in the bass department. Other than that, the DCM's win in every other category. Big thumbs up. Especially for less than $100.

I had TF400 and than TF600 speakers. More power does wake them up. Awesome sound stage.

I've always wanted to have the bass of stacked Large Advents and the mid/highs of those Vifa tweeters in the TF-500's melded into one cabinet. That would sound pretty awesome to me.

I see there's quite a DCM following. Totally understand why. Soon after I snagged up the tf-500 I noticed an ad for the the tf-1000. Unfortunately, the gentleman already had someone coming to pick them up. I guess the guy who's buying them is from Ann Arbor, so they're going home! The buyers dad even worked for DCM.

So, I guess I'll keep my eye out for more DCM's. I've considered possibly adding a sub. I might be getting my hands on a Lafayette receiver circa 78-80, can't remember the exact model, but 120wpc of old school power should do the trick.

I'm tremendously happy with the speakers and my setup for that matter, but just want to see their full potential. The Layfayette is currently being worked on and if all goes as planned I'm trading him a Pioneer SX 780 for it. I guess I'm going down the rabbit hole of audio perfection. Wish me luck.
 
Glad you are enjoying the Time Frames. I saw the CL listing for the TF1000's, was really tempted, i just have no more room for anything else, am pretty well stocked with DCM gear. I just really enjoy what I have and am glad when I see other folks experience the fun.
 
I have two pair of TF-400s and they are always workin'. The TF-600s did, however replace the 400s in the living room. A high # DCM TF would be the only speaker I would grab at this point in my life. I hope you really enjoy the 500s. The legasies are a little small but you could try a TF/Legasy stack with the Legasy holding up the 500. I have a JBL L35 topped with the 400 and it is a combo made in heaven. Nice find; enjoy.
 
Congrats on the TF-500s. Timeframes are one of those speakers you just have to own at some point, but once you get a pair your hooked. I have a pair of TF-350s that have been following me around for over twelve years. I doubt I'll ever get rid of them. I know it's a real pain in the ass, but they will sound better with a recap. I avoided doing my TF-350s till a couple of years ago, but when I was done, I was glad I did it.

Two weeks and still in awe of the TF-500's. Kind of bummed I didn't pull the trigger on the TF-1000's, but you live and learn. I would like to do a recap, unfortunately, I don't trust myself to try my hand at doing it myself. Plus, why fix it if it ain't broke.

Still waiting on the guy to finish up the Lafayette lr 120db. I figure the extra wattage can do nothing but good for them. I do have an opportunity to get some time window 1a's....I believe that's the correct model. He offered to bring them by next time he's in my neck of the woods to audition. Won't be for a couple of weeks as he is on the other side of the state.

Overall I'm very happy with the current setup, I figure I'll try out the Lafayette and see if I prefer the power vs the cosmetic beauty of the Marantz. The Marantz 2265b is definitely no slouch, but like I've mentioned before I've never had an opportunity to try a vintage "monster receiver ". I'll give an update once I get it hooked up.

I would try that combo but it's really not practical. Plus, I have spent some time finding just the right placement for the TF-500's and don't really want to mess with a good thing. Now if I ever upgrade the DCM's to a better set of DCM's , I might try that combo.

DCM TimeFrames TF2000's would be a worthwhile pursuit. Regarding the re-capping of speakers, it's not a "fix it" situation, it's a maintenance issue and can also be a path to performance upgrade.

I agree. I guess if I knew of someone that would be willing to do a recap it might be a more logical choice considering I've never done one and don't want to mess it up. I don't know how often TF- 2000's come up for sale, but I will definitely keep my eyes peeled.
