Yes.. The original Time Windows didn't say 1 but they were the first ones. I worked for Sights and Sounds, Oak Lawn and Chicago Heights, IL..We sold more than ANY other dealer according to DCM in 1980..There was/is a subwoofer that they made also for the Windows.. Very rare.. Sounded awesome in the store with Yamaha C2a, M2, T2, PX2. Good Times!

finally, a mention of the subs for these speakers. I sure would like to find a pic of them or of the system.
On the 2 pairs of TW's that I have owned the ID plate is a vertical strip centered on the back just below the top cap. I believe if they are 1's they just say Time Window and then have the serial number. The original grill material will feel almost like a sponge and is attached by two wooden slats on the back. If the grill is missing or damaged don't sweat it too much as it is a somewhat simple DIY project with regular speaker cloth.

Oooooh, there was a sub for the Time Windows? I sure would like to hear/see/have that system!
Come to think of it, I might have seen one and never known it... back in the glory days, there were plenty more old subs in the used-audio market here, than I had time to thoroughly check out. I'd look at some occasionally that seemed particularly interesting. Once I found the Infinity Modulus sub, but passed on it. Only a few months later, I found the Modulus speakers without the sub. I got them, but have yet to see another Modulus sub come through. :tears: Since Time Windows came through periodically, the subs might have, too... But I'll never know.

The original Time Bass, as the Time Window subs were called, were Reuleaux triangle-shaped on top and had the same grille cloth (the foam filter type material) that was on the TW. I don't recall exactly how it worked (powered or not). It made a very big difference in the sound of the mid-bass of the TW as it took the deep bass out of the TW allowing them to do the upper frequencies better.
I believe that the Time Bass were not designed to mate with the Time Windows but with Time Pieces. The Time Pices supplied the mids-highs and the Time Basses supplied the low end. The Time Pieces were designed to sit on top of the Time Bass.

No, the Time Bass were originally, specifically designed to operate with the Windows.. I know..I sold them!!!! But we only had 2 pair per store..I remember selling at least one pair. They had passive crossovers. If memory serves me they were actually spelled "Time Base". The TW's were $660 pr and we sold them like hot cakes after the 1980 Audio Critic and Sun Times reviews. The Time Base was about the same price. They looked like short, fat Time Windows. The designer and owner of the company Bob something used to come down to Oak Lawn from Grand Rapids and we used to talk all night............

I don't recall the spelling of the name and you may be correct, but I know you are correct in that a Time Base/Bass was made to be mated to the TW. The other one, the Bass instead of Base may well be the DCM way to tell the difference in the subs designed for the TW (Base as you say) and the sub for some little DCM speaker (Bass as folks here have stated). I sold the sub for the Windows back in the day but they were not around long at the store so I don't recall the actual spelling, just the name.
Very cool info. My info was based on the owner's manual on the DCM site for a speaker called the Full-time Bass which specifically mentions it be match with Time Pieces or Half-Time speakers. Maybe there other models that share a similar name and thus the confusion.
I have been happy with the bass in my TW's since matching them up with my Sansui amp but now I am curious what they would sound like matched up with a pair of Time Bass.
Marantz 8b, you probably sold the 210 powered sub. That was made by the Ann Arbor company. Bob Waterstripe was the partner you were remembering.
The Full Time Bass, I beleive was a product of the company after it was taken over by BIC. At least, that is what it looks like if you check out the DCM website.

TimeWindows are fine speakers until you need to work inside, which isn’t often. If you need to though, you need to deal with removing the endcaps or the grill cloth and crumbling foam. The Black Death adhesive the drivers are glued in with and the awkwardness of working in the cardboard tube. Buying a set with issues may/will be more interesting than one expects.

DCM Time Bass
I was cleaning out the attic at my grandmothers house and found two DCM Time Bass in their original box. The foam on the speakers has fallen off and one of the switches in the back of one of the speakers is broken but still functional. I have been trying to research but can’t find much and...
