I haven't posted in a bit, but I scored some new stuff for a pretty decent price today and wanted to share it with you all!
Here's what I got today:
Technics SA-5270
1977 Stereo Receiver; 35 WPC into 8Ω
The unit was received in near mint condition, with no manual present. Very low sound on both channels from all sources, fixed with a rigorous cleaning using DeoxIT D5 and some isopropyl alcohol. Cleaned the slight oxidation from the exterior and it is ready to be set up. Sounds pretty robust for being a small unit, has a great phono section, and makes my Optimus 1's really shine.
Technics SL-D202
1981 Automatic Turntable; Direct Drive; 2 Speed
The unit was received in good condition including the original manual and with slight blemishing on the exterior of the plastic casing. Cleaned up the switches and pitch adjustment wheel with DeoxIT D5 and everything works well now, was suffering from varying pitch beforehand. Sounds pretty good with an AT-VM95E connected. No complaints and it sounds noticeably better than the Sansui P-D10.
Onkyo TX-800
1989 Stereo Receiver; 35 WPC into 8Ω
The unit was received in mint condition, unfortunately, no manual here either. Cleaned up the switches due to a bit of scratchiness on the volume knob and it plays well. Very surprised with how good it actually sounds, I do prefer the Technics, but it isn't a slouch and the phono section is nice as well.
Onkyo TA-W450
1988 Dual Cassette Deck
The unit was received in near mint condition, once again there was no manual included. Cleaned up the exterior and did not need to do anything else. Plays cassettes without issue, it is missing the left eject button however so I will look for a replacement.
An old O'Sullivan audio cabinet and 35 cassettes were also included with the sale, so there are no complaints there either.
All in all this gear cost me $50 for all and about 45 minutes of driving. I think I did fairly well with this one. The Technics receiver is going to stay paired with my Optimus 1's with the aforementioned SL-D202 for the time being and the Onkyo will find itself in the guest room with a pair of speakers I'll have to procure in the future. The cassette deck will most likely be added to the Technics setup since I do not have another one.
I will post pictures at around noon today so stay posted.
P.S. As always feel free to share opinions on any of the gear mentioned, I always love to hear everyone's thoughts.
