They’re very sensitive. They’d probably know something was “aesthetically off” even with the lights off. But they never sit in the dark.

With a room that size I wouldn't get small speakers or a low wattage amp.

I'd suggest new for the amp, cd player and turntable and used for the speakers.

Have they got a system, yet?

I'd try to go to a B&M establishment to audition speakers. See if they pick out a sound they like. Also an opportunity to see what new stuff looks like and evaluate the aesthetics of the kit available today. Then cobble together a rig from some of the gear they like.

Thanks, I’m still researching. I have to listen to a few things and hear back from a couple dealers. There’s no rush on delivery. I’ll keep everyone posted on what we finally end up with.
