Defunct Audio Companies List

Meitner and Museatex (defunct systems companies, but Ed Meitner now works under the EMM Labs brand)
New York Audio Labs (Dr. Harvey "Gizmo" Rosenberg passed away in 2001, but Moscode amps are now being built by his onetime business partner, George Kaye, under the Moscode brand)
 
CAL is on there, under C. Tandberg is also on there, too.

Elite Electronics (built a modded Philips CD player in the late 80's/early 90's, and different from the UK company that built cartridges)
Don J Cochran (who built amplifiers, and if anyone comes across any, please let me know!)
 
How about the infamous Quatre -- and the "Gain Cell Amplifier"?

All in all, I hope whoever runs that site reads this thread. There's a lot missing, but it sure was interesting reading and brought back a lot of memories!

I APPLAUD THEM FOR THEIR EFFORT!!!!!!

Clairtone, or did I miss it? Founded 1958, disappeared in 1974.

The name was reused for boomboxes in the 80's. Now exists as a DVD player brand. I don't think these two are related to the original canadian Clairtone name.
 
Did not see Watkins speakers which I believe were made in East Tennessee. Stereophile liked them as I remember. Believe they also had a product called Ear Muffs, a baffle that went around speakers.

Watkins isn't defunct, he's still around as Watkins Stereo, though mostly just offering repair services for his past product.

Technically, my previous mention of Design Acoustics is inaccurate as the name was bought out nearly three decades ago and is occasionally applied to junk these days. As far as I'm concerned, the original company disappeared around 1980 and should be considered defunct.

• GNP Audio (GNP Audio was/is a nice stereo shop in Pasadena, CA. Founded by a couple of Cal Tech grads, they released a few speakers commercially, most notably the "Valkerie"). Not sure why they quit building these, as they were very good - especially for the time.

• Music Metre? Is this cable company still around? I really liked their stuff!
