Denon 2308ci CD/Aux works only in virtual mode

I bought a used Denon 2308ci at my goodwill a couple of months ago.

As the title of the thread says I can't get CD/Aux inputs to work in either direct or stereo modes, only virtual. I have no idea what that means- does it add some sort of virtual surround sound to the mix when I only want to use it in stereo mode?

I have it on speaker set A, with center, surround and subwoofer turned off. The speakers are set at large with no crossover frequency set.

I will be using this mostly for surround sound anyway, so it's not a huge deal, but I would like to figure this out.

Rather than looking for some possibly obscure setting/configuration, do a factory reset and start over again with a fresh setup.

That's what I was thinking. I'm having a hard time figuring out the manual though, and I can't seem to find the reset option on the menu.
 
I had to web search for my 3310ci and as I recall I got two different answers only one of which worked.

Also, IIRC, the 3310ci has a "hard" power button and a "soft" power button, the procedure involved holding down two other buttons and turning the power on from off or something like that. What nobody told me was which power button it was - I think it was the "hard" one but I don't remember now, but try both.

I tried that holding down the on/off button while holding down speaker A and B simultaneously. Nothing happened even though I held them down for at least ten seconds.
 
Press the power button to turn it off.

Press and hold down both Speaker A and B buttons.

Press the power button and release it, but continue to hold down speaker A and B until the display flashes at roughly 1 second intervals.

When the display starts flashing you can release the speaker A and B buttons.
 
Does it have a hard power switch? I'm going on memory but I'm pretty sure you had to turn power off completely and then reapply with the buttons held down.
 
The manual seems to be talking about the front panel power button; pg. 49.

Doesn't seem to say anything about holding down the power button, only speaker a and b.

THANK YOU!!! That worked. The instructions I read online were confusing, but now it works just fine in stereo mode.
