Denon DCD-1560 CD Player Question

Warren -- The front door is totally stuck and I can't get it to budge. I've decided to "take it in" rather then screw it up. Thanks for the help!! I'm going to find some other DIY project.
 
Try turning the power on and pushing the open / close button. It sounds like when the drawer pushed in the transport started to engage. Now you can't get it out manually, you need to use the motor to disengage the transport. what happens is when the drawer gets pushed in far enough the mechanism starts to lift up, or the clamp for the disc begins to drop (depending on the player).

before "taking it in", did you have a chance to note what Sony mechanism your (soon-to-be-ex-)1560 uses, especially the optical block?
Is is a KSS-140? 180? 190? 240?

This could be interesting for the Sony "7" series players!

Axel - It's already at the Tech's but I'll find out when I get it back and let you know.
 
ok - I thought you were going to give it away or back or junk it... These Sony drives truly are excellent - so keep your Denon!

I did a complete dismantling of my CDP-X777ES this morning for a future TVK post and, oh, wow, well, no thread-robbing intended, but these were truly built like mad.

I just asked for the KSS id because most of us with one of those players are up against buying a spare... player to get a spare optical block! So if it could be found in other players it would save us some doe :-)

thanks for these - I knew about the second but didn't know they had started to add op'blocks as well.

I'll check more precisely the other one later on. No KSS-281A in sight so far :-(

Looks like it's a KSS-151A.
 
...the more I learn, the more I believe the KSS-281(A) was made "on order" for the X777ES only :cry:

I don't think my Tech has even looked at it yet. It's in line with all the other stuff I've got over there! :banana:
 
Got the Denon back yesterday. Works PERFECTLY now. Just for the heck of it, I hooked it up to the MCS 3285 Receiver, which has really be impressing me, to see how they'd do together. Let's put it this way: I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO CD'S ALL DAY!!!!

Considering that I got both is these units for $70.00, plus $18.00 for a new belt for the Denon, I could not be happier!
 
Congrats on getting that thing singing again! Nice score too...I paid $450 for mine on a closeout back in '92, I've gotten my money's worth and then some out of it. I plan on keeping it going. Hard player to beat, I really like it.

I just picked up a DCD-1560 from a thrift Friday night. It had the same problem. After getting it home, I tried gently pulling the door open and it wouldn't budge. I took off the top and bottom covers, and the belt was very hard to get to. I could see the pully for the belts through the opening in the tray, but no belt at all. Bought a new belt and it is now working perfectly. This is one amazing sounding CD player, and VERY well built. I was surprised when I took off the top cover and found another cover underneath.

I also got my DCD-3520 working flawlessly. I cleaned the laser skids with denatured alcohol and then applied white lithium grease. Wa-la no more skipping! Cleaned the belt as well and the door now shuts tight. Great sounding CDP, weighs a ton and amazing build quality!
 
I added a pair of EPI 100s to the mix along with a Concept 2QD Turntable and almost skipped work today just to listen to 'em!!! I can't believe that even spending $1,000's of extra dollars would produce appreciably better sound than this strange combo. I've hit a SWEET SPOT!!

Usually my wife comes in to tell me to turn thing down. Today she came in and sat down and I instinctively turned it off. She said: "Why did you do that. I wanted to listen!".

WOMEN!!!! :yes:
 
Last night I paired mine up with the HK Three Thirty I just got.
All I can say is WOW! I thought I was listening to vinyl.
 
I bought one of these in 1990 when they were being discontinued. A real sweet beast of a player. I made the idiotic decision to sell it after a few years, and have regretted it since. Last summer I found one on audiogon that was in great shape, recent factory service..invoice included :)

Bought it. I don't think I'm going to part with this one ever. As much as I'm liking my analog sources again, I still want this Cd player around!
 
Mine has always worked fine with CD-R's. I just replaced the drawer belt. I need to find out what kind of grease I need for the tray rails...but she's almost 18 years old and still plays like a champ.

I have had a few 1560 over the last few years and most of them did play cdr's. I am still not 100% sure why this is so. Recently, I have not any success replacing a laser but there is something I am missing to do. Once I get it working, I will update. I have abotu 25 lasers as spares.
