Design Acoustics Speakers?

JP, how many versions of the PS-10's were made by Design Acoustics. Here are the ones I'm looking to get. Definately is a variation of the ones in your pic. Are mine a newer version? If you or the other D.A. fans could answer that'd be GR8!

That is one of the first versions. . . . later ones had an L-pad for the tweeter. . . atleast mine do.

Design Acoustics PS-SW Subwoofer

Is anyone familiar with the Design Acoustics PS-SW Subwoofer made post Audio Technica? I have an opportunity to pick one up cheap, but it's also passive or unpowered (I'm not sure if that's the same thing). But I have an extra amp. It's also only and 8", but U never know.

info on design acoustics ps 8s

was wondering if anyone has any ps 8s . im buying 2 pair this week . one set is like brand new the other has some scratches on the cabnets. im looking for specs . woofer tweeter. demotions. any hop ups for them different caps coils . or whole crossovers. ect. there the orginal ps8s one tweeter and the down fireing woofer . thanks

I've read mixed reviews on these. Mostly no where near as good as the PS-10's, but not terrible either.

I'll be looking for your impressions on these. I was tempted to grab a pair, but after reading about them, I passed.

Yep, I was just joking a little as most people refer to me when Design Acoustics are mentioned. I've a pair of bright blue dodecahedral D-12s, the scaled down polyhedron D-6, and a pair of PS-10s. Heck, if you click the link in my signature, you'll find the Design Acoustics Yahoo! Group that I created. A quick search of AK will reveal more information.

So, any information you're particularly interested in?

Hello I'm new to the group, but not audio, I have a nice set of Design Acoustic D-8's...long story short I was in the middle doing pipe over the road (work) and had removed wiring before leaving out, my return I some how lost my mind now after these sitting almost a year now and not able to hear them because I cannot for the life of me get it wired back up right to where it gives the correct load, heck it isn't even giving me anything close to 8ohms on the possible configurations I've tried. But tonight I had something change, just starting with the 2-10" woofers first and seeing how it goes. Thank you and my apologies if I'm stepping any lines but gosh I'm desperate to get these wired up right.

I was able to see those photos, but what I am having an issue with are speakers and the wiring to them in the cabinet (the 7 mids and tweets) I will get these things set up and take some photos of what I'm seeing, plus I'm sure there will be others wanting to see considering how few of the D8s are out there. Any time! Those are pretty rare speakers, so not a lot of info on the web. I searched for the schematic, but no luck. :-(

Getting back to the person who was trying to figure out how to re-wire his D-8's, all I can say is good luck! I worked at the original Design Acoustics company here in Torrance, California (both locations) part time during the mid to late 1970's including the period during which D-8's were being built. There were never any formal diagrams I saw of the cross-over networks for any of the D-Series models although the D-1 and D-2 models were simple two way systems with just a tweeter capacitor. I'm sure the owner/founder audio engineer George Sioles drew them up for use in the cross-over construction area but that was probably it as I never saw such a diagram in any of the company literature.

The D-8's were designed as a sort of super-charged version of the D-6 (the best selling model) which could play louder without distortion by using two 10 inch woofers rather than just one and adding more tweeters to the mix. Not all that many were made and sold and they have always been rare. Because of all of the drivers in the D-8 and D-12 models the wiring is complicated and without a schematic getting it right will be quite a challenge. As I said earlier in this post, Good Luck!

In the 80s when I was in College I purchased a pair of Design acoustic DS10 and in 2017 I replace the speakers still have them and playing good
