Desoldering Point to Point techniques

After removing as much solder as I can with spring-powered solder sucker &/or fluxed wick, I use a pointy tool to undo the offending cut- off stub or strands. Do this while iron is on the lug, loop or whatever & it'll all work out(at least for me it does. Ymmv...)
 
seen a tech on utube and working on an HK preamp, just peel it off/ unwind it(soldered-wound cap leads to a post), with wire cutters. of course, some are extremely saturated with solder.
 
I did some work on another piece of gear last night. I had bought a flux pen, and when I applied it to the wick I have, it worked quite well. I had been using an old paste flux-guess it was poor quality, and the pen dispenses liquid, so I gather it was able to penetrate better into the wick.

which flux pen did you get? I'm about out of the ancient tin of flux I've been using forever. Would like something a little less messy to use.

I do exactly the same thing. Once it gets started, it is easy to heat just the wire and not overheat the post.
