Differing versions of MC240 tube cages?

I will look for photos, but they differ in the holes:

V1 has large square openings
V2 has small square openings
V3 has small round openings.

This is nice to know, i have 4 mc-240's and none have cages. I knew about the square and round hole versions, but didn't know there were 2 square versions.

I'd need to ask @c_dk to know more, but I believe that McIntosh stopped equipping the late version with the cage and the owner needed to send in the warranty card to get a cage. This is why so few late / round-hole cages seem to exist. I am curious about when this occurred, and whether it was around the time the late version started shipping.

Well the reason I asked is when I bought my late model 240 a few years ago from a private sale, it came with 2 cages, both exactly the same, both the small round hole version. No idea why he had 2 of them, but he said they were original, so, I said....OK....Considering the spectacular condition both the unit and the cages were in, I wasn't going to argue. Never really gave it much thought till this weekend when I found them as I was cleaning up the disaster that is my small "shop"....

Our rep mentioned the tube cages in reference to owners negligence in sending in service contact applications.

In a effort to nudge the new owner into sending in the registration Mac offered a free tube cage if the card was sent in.

No date of implementation was mentioned but they were frustrated by the owners lack of participation.

Seems to me a lot of the amps were just stuck out of sight inside consoles and custom cabinets. BITD, I bought many dusty MC240s that way ...

I once read somewhere that product/warranty registration rate for McIntosh was around 33% - which was among the highest in the industry.

I tried to make one of the small hole cages a while back. Everything was going great, then my rivet tool wouldn't work for the snap clips. It kept breaking the center tabs out. Then life got busy again and I never got back to it. I even made a custom one out of 304 stainless but couldn't get those damn clips riveted.
