Hard to have an opinion when you can't see a single driver. Operational condition does not sound good, so it would be a project....

When they are working, they are fantastic.
I have a buddy that has resurrected a few pairs of those. I think he scored them without all the right drivers, so with all original drivers that work, it could be worth the effort.
The "socks" somehow are always a mess.
Go look and listen and if they work, flash $100.

If they are indeed S500's, RUN; do not walk, do not wait.
I remember these well as they were the first "real" stereo speakers I was exposed to in the early eighties. Everything else prior to that was part of a package deal.
They were hooked up to a Pioneer SX 1250 and would rattle the walls....three houses down.
Bass you can feel in your chest, mids were powerful and some silky smooth highs. My first experience with true "mid-fi".
Kind of like your first kiss though, memories probably make it better than it really was.

I'm off today so I will try and listen, the owner says they work "marginally"- whatever that means will remain to be be heard. I think these were made in Seattle originally. wmgwizard- I'm not sure they are the s500's, the owner says someone suggested that but the husband thinks he got them in the late 70's which were prior to s500's apparently.

They were pretty popular in western WA. , You bought them in kit form and assembled them yourself. most sounded pretty good.

A very good speaker,had a pair and sold off,haveing regretted it on occasion.I have more accurate speakers now but these speakerlabs are very good if you like to rock out and pour the coal to them.Locally a pair of speakerlab 7's can up recently and upon seeing the ad I started sweeting.....wife had to talk me down and pour me a beer,hate to think of where id put them if she hadn't been home..

the Kenny will be excellent on the speakerlabs.As with most of the speakerlab models they crave hi-dampening power amps over 80 wpc.I mention the HK 16a as that was my keeper solid state amp for driving hard to drive speakers,my AR9s in particular.
They look like either S300 or S500, tough to say because no dims are provided. If so then they are 1981 or later as those models first appear in the 1981 catalog. Take a tape measure when you go.
S300 = 34-3/4" x 12-1/4" x 11"
S500 = 38-3/8 x 14-1/2" x 11-1/2"
My opinion is that if they have original drivers and you are ready to invest in repairing surrounds (almost certainly needed), crossovers, etc then absolutely they are worth the price.

Well, I was all set to go hear these this weekend and give them a once over-and was waylaid by a pair of Klipsch Forte II's that were demo'ed for me. I'm getting those. Can't describe how incredible I thought they sounded. The Speakerlabs are still out there for anyone who's interested and handy. The 2nd owner, Gerry, sounds like a really good guy. Thanks for everyone's input.

If they have the Fostex ribbon tweeters- the tweeters alone can go for over $150
I have a set of those tweeters in a pair of bookshelf speakers that I have been known to stack with various other speakers. As I write this I have them stacked with a set of JM Labs tower speakers that have inverted dome tweeters. Yhe combination I think is unreal!!!
