DIY Audio rack Any suggestions?

Going to try and us these boards for the front. If I can figure out how to cut them so the edges line up close it could be pretty sweet. It will be a lot of trimming (trial and error) for it to end up how I would like it. Wish me luck.

Nice miters; a little bit of rustic "class."

Thanks. Yeah I'm going for that look I guess. Kind of "show off" the imperfections in the wood.

Got the bottom board sort of done. Might change it out though for a different one.

I'm no mathematician so it took me a bit to get the angles right (trim and check, trim and check) since the boards aren't the same width.

Well here it is al nailed together. I did end up changing the bottom board on the face. Found something that fit together better. I've decided against the resin on the top. Just going to do it all with polyurethane and put glass on top.

Here is the kind of finish it will end up having (I hope).

Looks good. The challenge in finishing rustic projects is to end up with something that doesn't snag your sweater sleeve.

Yeah it will take lots of coats of polyurethane. I'll put on 3 or 4 coats then sand a bit then put on more coats and decide if it needs more sanding and more coats. Definitely don't want many "snaggy" spots.

The sanding will be tedious. If I do something like this again I might get all the boards fitted then separately coat and seal each board. Then nail it together and give it one last coat. I don't know, we will see how it goes.

This is the equipment I currently have that will end up in the rack. The mixer will sit on the glass on top most likely. All this has been collected for free over the years except for the mixer. Want to find a good rack mount mixer at some point.

Well here is what I ended up with. I'm fairly happy with how it turned out. I definitely know things I would do different if I do something like this again.

I will get glass to put on top and im debating on a smoked glass door on the front. If I put a door on it the door would have to be removed anytime I wanted to change equipment. Could be a surface mount door but that would look terrible, a recessed door would look great.

Well done. The equipment actually finishes it off, and a glass top would also be my choice. Glass doors I've never tried, but there is some really nice hardware for making them (Lee Valley Tools, for one).

Thanks.
I was actually surprised how good it looks. I'm glad i painted the inside like I did instead of using polyurethane.

I've been looking at hardware and different styles for a door. The expensive part will be the glass.

I knew someone that had a rack system tbat was composed of a bunch of long and shorter planks with slots and pegs at the ends. They could be put together in almost endless configurations. It was very cool.
