DIY Patrician 700 EV Altec Renkus Heinz W/ Patrician 700 crossovers

Just picked these speakers up. Look like home made cabs. Patrician 700 crossovers. Altec 803B on the bottom. Renkus heinz on the bottom. Built by Russell markwart long time senior engineer to Champion Spark Plugs.

These will be for sale after I enjoy them for a few weeks.

I don't have proper gear to fully enjoy them. But they sound great with basic 125w receiver running them. From what I gather the EV Patrician 700 crossovers are the real gem here?

I want to ask value questions but I wil hold off on that. Not sure if this is proper place for that. I am running a set of design acoustics DA-8 with these. Sounds amazing. Jaz and classical stand out.

Not sure why it only lets me load one pic.

Oh, those aren't Patricians at all.

Those are DIY speakers that someone stuck a Patrician crossover into. Looks like EV T35/Klipsch K77 tweeters.

Are the bottom two sections of the crossover shorted together? IIRC the first stage crossed at 100hz.

I don't know anything tech wise about them. The builder was massive audiophile. These speakers were built into his wall.

I can take pics inside and crossover later today. I think the horns are fiberglass university sound. Was told the little horns were EV.

Perhaps.

But, those midbass horns are classic dual 15 inch Perkins bins, down to some pretty small details.

Great for sound reinforcement, and public address. For an "audiophile" application they would probably require a bit more refinement than transplanting Patrician XO's and mismatched woofers in them.

Without some serious magic, i doubt they are much more than the sum of their parts.

Magic? Not sure what he was running. But I did get his empty rack. Was all in this glass case thing. You are probably right. They don't have the bass I thought they would have. There was some sub woofers involved. Also 4 altec 618 speakers which I already sold.

His rack. Which I think is old telephone data thingy. I really been wondering what was in it. It did have crown DC300a amp in it though.

They weren't large cabinets stuffed into corners, were they?

Perhaps like this?

I doubt those speakers would do much under 100hz as they sit.

The 618 had jensen speakers inside. Sold for $300 each to Japan. I got one other speaker out of the lot. Some hi end amps missing parts. Will see if I can find some pics. Here is the speaker. I don't know who ad the cab.

Along with the stereo stuff was 1.5 truck loads of ham radio gear and radio repair items.

So I take it the real value is the patrician 700 crossovers? I can find the 700 and 800 speakers. But no crossovers only. The crossover are quite large inside the speakers.

Got inside today. Lots loose hanging or unglued zip tie broke. Clearly custom work done around input area. These need to go to get serviced.

More to come.
