DIY Patrician 700 EV Altec Renkus Heinz W/ Patrician 700 crossovers

Were was that tag dated 1961 attached ? The horns could be that old, I can't remember when the Patrician 700 first came out . The EV woofers definitely are not that old.

The tag you can see on the crossover in most pics hanging. The Renkus tag looks like it fell off the back of the speaker. Perhaps crossovers are from 1961. Have not opened other speaker yet.

From the info I got from family at estate sale. Was speakers and dance floor were built into the wall when Russ bought the house early 80's. They think that's when he built them.

I also got 20 or so bins or resisters capasiters from sale. People were buying bins and dumping labeled contents into buckets before I got a hold of them. I bought all the bins and buckets.

Guess what I am trying to say is would not surprise me if lots of tinkering has been done. His real passion was radios though.

And I forget to flip that tag over and look if anything on other side.

My only thought is : did the Patrician xover mean a pr of unobtainium Patricians got scrapped for these ? If so I am sad.

I asked myself that as well. Or why could these not be all original 700's. I could be wrong but i seen stuff about DIY 700's plans from the 70's. I think that was cabs though. Not sure about crossovers.

as far as the crossovers go I don't know what I am looking at. Don't think ev would have stuff hanging like that. Some of it came unglued. But some parts look to be just hanging.

I am confused. why would they say rh on the ffront if the are evm15L EV's..

thanks for your time.

Because Electrovoice manufactured them for Renkus-Heinz. In fact, most Renkus-Heinz-labeled woofers are Electrovoice or PAS (Professional Audio Systems). There's probably more PAS-manufactured RH woofers out there, but there were a significant number made by EV.

I've reconed many of these over the years. They use exactly the same parts.

BTW: The "8915" at the end of the number, should mean that it was made in the 15th week of 1989.

Another interesting factoid- the Renkus-Heinz P1500 amplifier is a re-badged Hill Audio DX-1500. I know this, as I bought a Renkus P1500 from the former US national service manager for Hill Audio. He had several of each- the Hill and Renkus versions- and they're absolutely identical inside.

Regards,
Gordon.
