DIY Record Cleaning Machine - Finally Done

I have now cleaned over 800 records with this machine and I can truly say that I love it and I don't know that I could go on buying records without it!

Ooops! Sorry. I had forgotten.

I really wish that I had the time to draw up a simple plan for my machine and then put together a kit of the metal parts. The problem is that I did them all one at a time (custom fit on each) and I did them during work - squeezing in a part here and there.

Anything on a record treatment? I just got 245 very well cared for albums that don't need strong cleaning, what is/are the latest products out there for anti static treatments or dust control? Avail. east usa..

I probably have close to $100 total invested in this machine.

The plywood was left over from my record rack build.

The turntable dustcover and top trim was $3.

Tap Plastics tubing $6.

The adapter to my shop vac was $7.

I paid $10 for the motor, $10 for the platter.

The rest was electrical, pipe, tubing, stainless screws, handles, carpet tape, hat ribbon, just a bunch of little things.

I also had the benefit of lots of free scrap metals!

Say, do you think that the center hub's own weight would do the clamping
without being bolted to the spindle?. One less operation to do (screwing/un-screwing of the clamp), and no danger of metal chips?...

No, the clamping force of the threads is necessary.

I eliminated the metal chips from the aluminum by adding a steel Helicoil.
 
I have seriously been contemplating building one of these. I have the wood skills but not the metal shop skills. I bought a turntable from a guy off of Craigslist and he had made a cleaner out of an old single console turntable using PVC pipes for the vacuum tube. Thanks for sharing this.

Nice design hi*ball. I'm going to try to knock it off eventually here. I'm going to try to make mine with as little fabrication skill as possible and use household parts. Thanks for the inspiration, we'll see what I come up with.
