DIY Streamer (Raspberry Pi AirPlay / AirPlay 2 Transmitter)

Hello all, hopefully this is in the right place.

I've recently rediscovered my CD collection and wanted the Hi-Fi "insert disc please play" experience but with my AirPlay speakers.

So I’ve been experimenting using a Raspberry Pi to send audio from CD or turntable to AirPlay speakers. I've ended up with a small app that converts basically any Wi-Fi capable RPi to an AirPlay streaming appliance with a small, app-style web UI for control.

As I couldn't really find anything simple that does this, I’ve decided to make my project autostream available on GitHub. Under the hood it uses ffmpeg and Owntone. It's at early release state and installation is easy via automatic deployment script.

The code is here: https://github.com/lo-tech-systems/autostream

I’d be very interested to hear thoughts!

At some point I may start a new thread but while I'm thinking out loud, the RPi would be:

  • a streamer (to replace a Bluesound Node 2) - mostly stream Tidal and a web radio station
  • a computer connected to a TV
  • a computer to receive images/video from security cameras
Just some random thoughts for now.
