Hey All,
I thought I would share my progress as I build a sand box isolation platform that meets my significant others design requirements. Lol.
I have been consulting with Chat GPT on design aspects, which has been pretty cool as Chat drops scientific data such as material properties to back up its design offerings.
I started off by building a box out of 1 inch Baltic Birch ply wood. This turned out to be a seriously heavy duty box weighing in at 10 lbs alone. I then decided to wrap it in faux leather that matches a chair in our living room. Chat GPT recommended I line the box in 3 mm neoprene to aid in isolation. So I went to my local Joann's RIP and picked up some neoprene. Chat said the leather and neoprene will aid in vibration isolation.
Also per recommendations from Chat, I minimally affixed the neoprene to the box to aid in expansion and contraction and reduce coupling effects.
Next I will be ordering some 70 mesh Silica Sand and will source a piece of Granite from a local supplier. Chat said 70 mesh is ideal due to granule size minimizing air gaps between grains, but also not too fine as to allow compaction. As for stone choice, Chat recommended Slate, Soap Stone, Engineered Quartz, and Granite as great choices for a platform on the sand.
