When it comes down to absolute, no-hold-barred elegance, there is very little that can stand comparison to my Well Tempered "Amadeus" pre-production prototype's Classic Magenta Polyester Sewing Thread Drive Belt. It was a gift from Ruth (Ms. Planet 10) at the Vancouver Island DIY Fest three years ago. I'm happy to relate that I tied the critical square knot and as I had suspected, it worked perfectly the first time out!

Like the "DIY turntable HD" video where you tighten the clamp nut with an electric drill. That sucker is definitely not going to come loose fall off. Again....... first rate work.
 
A few small updates.

Powdercoated the ring clamp:

And I added 2 magnets to the bearing housing. The platter is fully suspended by the magnets, it no longer rests on the ball at the top of the shaft.

What if any change in sound quality have noticed since incorporating the magnetic suspension.
 
That is really so well done in so many different ways. Congrats on a fine job. I'll suggest a 'BlackWidow' arm to add just the touch of elegance against it massiveness.

No nothing audible. If anything magentic suspension would reduce rumble, and maybe increase the life of the bearing.

Here is a spectrum plot, recorded from the inner groove of an lp before i fitted the magnets.

The noise is already very low. -66db by 30hz. The large peak at 10hz is the tonearm/cartiridge resonanse. Small peaks notable at 60hz and 120hz, I thought this was a power supply issues somewhere, but it turned out to be on the lp.

I need to take more measurements, but I have no way to record into the pc where the turntable is right now.
