DIY Vinyl Storage

Just finished this walnut vinyl tower for a good friend of mine who first got me into vintage sound equipment. All walnut construction with oak thru dowel joinery. I had to add a birch backer because thin walnut plywood is impossible to find. I think it works. It was hard to gift it to him because I liked it so well. I guess I'll have to build myself one in the near future!

My Ikea cube is 13" wide ... holds about 73 or 74 on average (includes gatefolds & some double LPs.

I don't pack them real tight ... I like some room to move the Vinyl around.
 
I see you have real nice wood working tools in the background (hint, hint)........I'm thinking of building another set of speakers in the near future........:)

Oh, did you build the stereo stand shown in your avatar?
 
Very nice. Once they're filled with albums you won't see the backboard anyways, if anything I'd say use walnut stain on the backboards.

I've kicked around trying to build some speaker boxes for a while now. Yes, I build the stereo console a while back.

Looks like a Pioneer PL-71 turntable on top. I have one of them, too. Nice job on the hifi cabinet. Looks nice and retro. Is that an entire Pioneer system (receiver, speakers too)?
 
Looks great! That's a wonderful gift.

I have an 8x10 "closet" that's dedicated to record storage. I built custom shelving for my LPs, 78s, 45s and reel to reel tapes. It was a big job, especially without a table saw. My collection outgrew my storage and I ended up buying from Ikea. It was cheaper and easier, but I still prefer my custom shelves.

This is one that I built for my ever growing collection. It is one sheet of three-quarter plywood, one sheet of 5mm plywood backer board, and one stick of 1 x 4 pine to face trim the front plywood edges. I also used a 2 x 6 pine base to elevate the shelves up from floor level.

The upper shelf is 31.25 inches across, and the lower cubes are 15.25 inches each. The unit holds approximately 872 albums.
 
All you talented dudes! Now you need a light above it for night fishing. My rack in the listening room is built into a convenient little cove, with Best Chair swivel gliders to easily swing around to them. I also have an in-ceiling LED par lamp above the records

I have a Pioneer PL-55X TT, Pioneer SX-1050 receiver, Pioneer CS -66A speakers, and Pioneer CS-77 speakers.
