Yup! Unless you’re handy, you have to buy multiple straight arm tubes just to quickly change cartridges for the low mass arm. If it were mine, I would modify a spare straight arm to allow a removable headshell. The hardware required would weigh maybe 0.5 grams more than the non-removable headshell. I had to rebuild the headshell arm socket on a DP45F. All parts were available on eBay.

I decided not to try the modification route. What I did do is buy an S arm from a dealer in Japan and I am using a Nagaoka MP-200 cartridge. I think what I’ll do is leave my straight arm factory, and at some point I’m gonna get an M44G cartridge and stylus. That way I can use the straight arm for some records that aren’t in such pristine condition, as I acquire them and continue to collect used records. For now, I’m going to leave the straight arm modification to the experts, like @Wolfie62.

I’ve never heard of those but that doesn’t mean much. I inherited a DP57L that came with an old Shure M44G cartridge on the straight arm. I started out by just replacing the, (relatively inexpensive) needle for it; I upgraded some year and a half later to an S arm and more expensive cartridge, (including stylus). For myself I took the cheapest route to make sure all of my components were going to work. I’ve been learning as I go along. Btw, posting pictures of what you’re working on will help those here that are more experienced, (not I) “lead you in the right direction”. Good luck!

Mitachi Acoustics was founded in 1951 under the brand name Glanz and closed in 2003. Astatic re bagged some of their products. They were “moving flux”, and said to be something between a MM and MC

I have several various used cartridges that were in a small box when I was given my tt. I think I remember ohming out the Empire cart and may try and acquire a stylus…, the original, (plastic base) was broken inside the cart.
